Must have been culture shock for him to go to a country where being intoxicated in public is a crime.

My dad swam across the sip like thrity years ago. Got the friends to confirm. I didn't believe him for the longest time but it really isn't very far to swim at all when you think abt it. People swim waaaayyyyy further. Any decent swimmer in good shape could swim across the river with ease. My dad did also say that they wound up miles down river and they had to call someone to come pick them up.

Considering the fact that it sits across the border from Detroit, I assume this guy's home town is where Canada send all of its degenerates.

I've seen someone swim the Arkansas river.. it really isn't that hard if you are in halfway decent shape.

he just drifted out and swam downstream, pretty much dog paddling, and let the current do most of the work. the force of the water will carry you downstream so once you've got momentum the flow does most of the work. just don't go under water.

How does the Mississippi compare to other waterways such as the English Channel? Several dozen people have swam across that.

There was a blog posted once from a guy who tried kayaking the river in b.r.. He flipped about halfway across and nearly drowned.

There is a ton of fast moving debris in the Mississippi river and it is fresh water versus salt so you have less buoyancy.

With all of the bends and turns in the river, I assume where you cross will have a profound impact on your chances of success.

The currents in the MS are what kill you. The MS is turbulent, it's like a washing machine. There are under toes everywhere. I do believe that someone could and has done it. But everyone saying it's not that hard is dumb. When a MS river under toe sucks you under you aren't coming up alive if at all, and I don't care if you are Michael Phelps you aren't out swimming that current. If anyone has actually done it they can consider themselves as lucky as the powerball winner, because luck is the only thing that kept them alive.

Alright, Johnny Badass. I'd love to see you swim across the Mississippi. Just know that we're not fishing out your body and are going to let you float out to sea.

Lol, the Miss River at it's widest point is right at a mile wide. Swimming a mile isnt that far. It may suck, but it's not impossible. For a strong swimmer, you prlly have a better chance at getting hit by a tug boat than drowning because of the current.

Well whoever tries to swim it should duly note not to swim 6 feet under the water where the currents are

Are we talking here in Baton Rouge right underneath the bridge of something like that?

I say no fricking way, Michael Phelps himself would lose his life to that river.

No he wouldn't...if you know how to stay with the current in certain situations, an extremely strong swimmer can make 99% of the time.

People have done it several times before.

It's the least we can do for puting Detroit so close to the border.

It wasn't at Baton Rouge, but homeboy swam it blindfolded with his arms handcuffed behind his back.
