Read the article not the thread title.

Just so you know, Stephen Hawking has recently theorized Black Holes do not exist...

So if this gets peer reviewed and is accepted, where does it leave the study of the beginnings of the universe? Of life?

, but don't we have documented pictures and data of black holes in other galaxies?

How exactly would one take a picture of a black hole?

This study is interesting. People accept certain hypotheses in astrophysics as fact that are far from being proven.

ETA:
Okay well the article claims she DID say they can't exist, but her explanation just says stars dying can't create them

Then her conclusions are suspect. The method of creation may be wrong, but to claim they dont exist is absurd considering the mountain of evidence.

You can take images, especially time lapse (aren't they all, I mean we are seeing the past in the sky) and see known objects disappear for a time as the cross the path of one.

There is plenty of circumstantial evidence.

And can we keep this off of religion for once? Cause I means if y'all insist......

OP's thread title is wrong. She never said black holes didn't exist, just that the idea of a star collapsing on itself and creating a black hole is implausible.

Not sure why people are getting upset over it. It's a scientific finding and she says she has the math to prove it. Why not wait and find out if she's right?

The best evidence for the black holes, in particular the super massive black holes at the center of galaxies is the speed of stars near the center of galaxies, and the lack of a light source. Generally anything in the universe that has mass (i.e., gravity) associated with it, also emits or reflects light. The center of our own galaxy and others has noticeable dark spot that also accelrates the surrounding stars far more than could be accounted for without a large mass.

For fricks sake you can now watch a movie of a black hole slinging stars at the center of our very own galaxy....the only thing with enough mass in a small area to do it is a black hole

recently they watched it swallow portions of an approaching gas cloud

You use "fact" too loosely. There is much evidence pointing to the existence of black holes but only interpretation of evidence leads us to "believe" in black holes actually existing. You cannot see, touch, smell, hear, etc. a black hole. Makes it hard to know for a fact it is there. There could be unknown forces that create the evidence and we just can't see past what we assume at this point.

Singularities are always areas where knowing for a "fact" is just not realistic. The existence of a singularity defies what we do know about physics. There is always some small variable that prevents them from existing that was either missed or assumed irrelevant at one point. Singularities occur based in pure theory and it is a theory that is terrible at explaining the universe at this point.
