Just so you know, Stephen Hawking has recently theorized Black Holes do not exist...

And just so you know, he may be famous, but his work since graduate school has been mostly shite.

The best evidence for the black holes, in particular the super massive black holes at the center of galaxies is the speed of stars near the center of galaxies, and the lack of a light source. Generally anything in the universe that has mass (i.e., gravity) associated with it, also emits or reflects light. The center of our own galaxy and others has noticeable dark spot that also accelrates the surrounding stars far more than could be accounted for without a large mass.

or a different energy that is unknown to us at this point. It could even be described by elements we don't understand yet.

I'll say this, if you applied the same standards to a black hole as some people apply to God, they wouldn't believe in them

There could be unknown forces that create the evidence

So you're saying there is another physical force, which reacts the exact same way as gravity...but isnt gravity. Oh and we dont know what it is yet?

How exactly would one take a picture of a black hole?

This study is interesting. People accept certain hypotheses in astrophysics as fact that are far from being proven.

They actually know "black holes" exist because there will be planets orbiting what looks like nothing. There is an obvious gravitational relationship between these planets and another entity but we cannot see them as visable light.

I do believe we can see them using an infrared lens, but Im not 100% sure on that.

Maybe... I am certainly in no position to judge..

However, I would say it would be interesting to know more about those that would rebutt his ideas..

I am sure the info is out there.. I just do not have the time to research it at the moment..

Daily Mail link baiting

quote:

here is a reason for that

they use a gossipy click bait title

and people post it to message boards

and some people freak out

and then we learn more about the actual study...and people stop freaking out

They do it all the time for climate change articles.

Here is a link to all sorts of pictures from space agencies like NASA of black holes.

Yea those are seen with X-Ray lens.

There is plenty of circumstantial evidence.

True, but to accept the theory as fact as so many do is misguided. As someone else already pointed out, even Hawking, who developed the current theory of black holes, no longer thinks they exist as he postulated. The theory to explain the circumstantial evidence will likely change drastically over the next 50 years.

The holes in quantum mechanics to newtonian physics to celestial mechanics are gaping. We know very little about the universe and how it works at this point. 70% of the assumed mass of the universe is missing at this point.

I love space and find it very intriguing but Im certainly no expert. Took a class at LSU and have watched a ton of documentaries. Besides that only simple ammeter astronomy with small telescopes.

It's just cool to discuss, even with those who don't know what's going on.

Are you really claiming to be smarter than Stephen Hawking?

I have a physics degree and still don't pretend to understand half of what's going on. Yet some people here...

Me no expert either...

I do however find it all VERY interesting...
