What about Rio and Eagle Pass? Those are great towns with terrific night life and a very cosmopolitan vibe.

I still believe Austin is a great place to live, but the last few years have really made it difficult for the locals to adjust to the growth. The cost of living is inching up to a territory where it's more and more difficult to maintain. Esp when wages for professionals havent seen the same exponential growth.
I would take Houston over Dallas every damn day
and then San Antonio way way way behind Dallas. S.A. sucks....bad

people from Houston hate Dallas. People from Dallas don't even think about Houston. Tells you everything you need to know.

But after I moved to LG and started working in Deep Ellum (which has really started to clean up and boom) I began to appreciate Dallas much more. The Lakewood area is pretty nice as well.
In the last year, just about every bungalow less than $200k has been scraped and giant "Uptown" condos are going up at warp speed. I don't recognize the hood around lowest greenville anymore. Uptown has arrived.

Yea, I'm not very happy about how fast the lowest area of LG has changed w/all the condos coming in. It also annoyed me to no end that the zoning rules changed that shut down most of the bars I liked. They can say it was b/c of crime all they want but I know damn well that was pushed by the people like LeComte that bought up everything and started the condo building.

St. Patrick's Day coming up. Time for revenge on all the crumudgeons along Greenville. Block party time!

Lived in all 3
Plano-Richardson area was top notch over Woodlands-Spring area in my opinion for such things as entertainment, traffic commute and living standards.
Austin was nice for entertainment but couldn't raise a family there.

Austin's traffic is just miserable. I've never had as much trouble in Dallas as Austin. The traffic alone makes Austin extremely overrated to me.

The wife is entertaining an offer in Dallas and Austin, with the option the Dallas offer can roll into a Houston office once they open it later this year. So this thread is very timely.
We are leaning Austin. We have way more friends in Houston, none in Dallas and 2 maybe in Austin.
Austin job pays more and we think coming from New Orleans it may be the best fit lifestyle wise.
We'd live in the city "center" or loop in all 3 as any commute longer than 20 minutes is just a non starter
Hopefully if there is anything else we may need to know this thread can help

I'm not getting into the debate, but this comment peeks my interest.
Why?

Houston... Reminds me of if you took the worst aspects of LA, NOLA and Atlanta and then sucked all the fun out of them.
This is one of the dumber comments that will be said in this thread, no matter how many pages it goes.

if you live in austin, the only way to get an under 20min commute to work is to live directly above your office

Austin housing costs have reached California levels. It's pretty ridiculous now considering the weather and mountains aren't nearly as good.
