Dallas hands down. Austin is too damn expensive.

Austin isn't all that much safer than Dallas and at the minority claim.

Austin may be segregated as frick but go across 35 and you'll find plenty of minorities. LINK

for the crime stats

As for leaving your doors unlocked, that kind of thing all depends on what part of a city you live in.

Yep, I just took a job out here in October, coming from Orlando.

For safety, school, and all those things that are important with having a family, it's pretty top notch.

Just closed on my new home in McKinney on Friday.

How come San Antonio isn't included in this? All my friends that have visited there say it's great.

Yeah, there's like 3 places to go out in Ft Worth.

I'm sure for those who love that stuff it's great, I'm just not a cowtown person.

Because outside the Riverwalk, SeaWorld and the Alamo it's less than stellar.

Can get good authentic Mexican food there however.

I have lived in suburbs near Fort Worth, Dallas and Houston.

If you are into the cowboy culture then Ft Worth is just right for you.

Dallas is home to more arrogant, pompous asses than you can imagine. I would not use the phrase warm and friendly to describe the population.

In the summer, the temps in DFW area can be 95 at 10:00 pm. They also have ice storms in the winter along with snow.

Houston has more of a Southwest Louisiana feel to it due to its location near the gulf. I have lived in the Houston are for 20 years and I only recall snow 3 times and 1 time where ice closed down the freeways. The people are much more friendly and they are many more Louisiana transplants.

I would never live in the downtown area of any city, I prefer life in the suburbs.

Great choice, no coincidence it is the #1 place to live in the entire country under 500k. They were #2, last year and #3 2014.

I have buddy that lives there, loves it.

I just moved to Houston within the last month. I'm from Chicago and have been fortunate enough to reside in some of the world's other great metropolises. I'm surprised at how much I like Houston thus far. It's definitely exceeded my expectations and its general reputation. Much more diverse and cosmopolitan than I anticipated. The neighborhood where I live (near Rice) is vibrant. Perhaps my opinion will change with time, but I'm favorably impressed. JMO.

Dallas is for terrible people.

Then color me terrible.

For every "a-hole" in Dallas - there are 3 more Dallas residents of similar age and income that hate the a-hole as much as the rest of y'all do.

I started out in Ft Worth after college and gradually worked my way East. I actually preferred the D of a decade ago when the bars were open 'til 4am than the way it is today.

Once you learn your way around - There is something for everybody here and you can avoid the traffic altogether using the trains.

Like to visit Austin... Glad I'm not living there.

Houston doesn't have enough fun areas to interest me.
