The disc between the vertebrae is what bulges. Wow

I had the exact same issue and had surgery last Friday. Still have the surgical pains but the transient nerve pain has vanished. I went through all conservative treatment options. Dr. Sin in Shreveport did mine. Great guy.

The material within the disc is what bulges or ruptures.

Intervertebral discs are fibrocartilagious structures. They act as the cushion between vertebrae. The same way meniscus work in your knee. It's cartilage. Not bone. It's amazing what OT experts try to pass off as fact.

It was amazing the amount of relief the surgery offered me. My first surgery was in 99, had a laminectomy done and then suffered a second injury 2 years later in another auto accident messing up the the lami had fixed. Went 10 years living in pain. Went through every conceivable treatment, surgery was last option. Knowing what I know now, I would have done it (surgery) years ago. Quality of life is priceless and not having to take all of the pills just to be able to function is another huge blessing.

agree w/ several posters. I'm a long time back pain sufferer and through a couple of really good chiropracters, Physical therapists, and other things I've been able to avoid surgery.

Scrantz is a great surgeon and won't cut unless it's really necessary. Bertuccini is good and also conservative. But definitely see Scrantz and let him view the MRI films.

Do yourself a favor and take him to see Dr. Kelly Scrantz in BR at the Neuromedical Center. Best neurosurgeon in the state.

He may be good but I wouldnt go that far.

OP...Do yourself a favor and get in contact with Dr Frank Cullichia @ Cullichia Neuro in Marrero. When my wife was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm we searched high and low for the best neurosurgeon in the Gulf South.I am so thankful we ended up there. He is one of the top neurosurgeons in the nation. He is also the head of Neurosurgery at the LSU Medical Center. You wont find better Neuro care in La. Cullichia Neuro

Pretty surprising that somebody named poopsonsaban wouldn't understand basic anatomy of the human spine.

My wife and I both have the same problem - bulging disc at L4-L5. Her pain is much more severe and it looks like she's going to need surgery early next year. Mine is controlled fairly well with using the incline table and TENS machine. Good luck to your son.
