The odds you'd specifically a handgun are extremely slim.
That said, "needing" something isn't the metric to be used for determining whether or not something should be legal for average joe citizens.
You might do a better job stimulating conversation if you get to the point of your post, because the vast majority of people who read this are going to take it as an affront to handgun ownership, when in reality you could just be asking if you need to keep it loaded and ready.

Let's see....I've been shot at three different times and didn't have my gun. Carry it almost everywhere now. If you have spent time in the same places I have, your mind would change

I keep one in my truck and one in my nightstand. Both loaded. I've had some close calls before and I'd rather have the odds in my favor

I don't own one, I said that I wanted to buy one when I moved to New Orleans, but that was two years ago and I never came around to doing it. Maybe I'll eventually buy one, but I don't feel like I need one.
