I heard a guy say one time "I've never owned a pistol because I can defend myself with my bare hands".

He is a big hunter and owns plenty of long guns

I just don't feel the need for a handgun. Most people on this board probably don't live in da hood. What are the odds a pistol is ever needed in a middle class house?

50/1

I own a handgun but don't carry it and don't keep it loaded

I don't think they are necessary, but I respect that its a right that people have to own them if they want to

Hell no. Only cowards need a gun to feel safe.

necessary? probably not. So what? Some people like to have them for peace of mind. Some people collect them. It's their right.

I hope I live to be 100 and never need to use a handgun, but I dont want to be in a situation where I need one and don't have it.

They're great to have around the house for low probability events, like someone breaking into your house while you're in it, or your kid going off the deep end.

Necessary? Not really. If you live in a neighborhood where you really need one then the best thing to do is move to a better neighborhood.

But if you want one, go for it. Stay safe.

no, they are not "necessary"...I would say the odds of having to use one in a home defense situation are many millions/1, as I don't know a single person who has actually shot someone in his own home....

that said, I also see no reason to try to deny person his constitutional rights if he chooses to own a gun...

I drive a lot for work. I keep one in my truck JIC. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Yes, I believe so. I believe owning and using a firearm in a responsible manner, is a civic responsibility that was bestowed on us by our Founding Fathers. If you choose not to own a pistol or firearm, fine. But, I choose to own one for several reasons: 1) the 1970's are gone, and so are the days of leaving your home unlocked at night, much less during the day; 2) I like shooting pistols, rifles, and shotguns; and 3) I often carry my pistol when I hunt - a pistol provides piece of mind when you're approaching a downed deer or removing a hog from a trap (redneck reasons, I know).

You give me that unnecessary handgun and I'll take on this guy and win every damned time. The guy you speak of is a grade A moron
