I've never owned one. Probably never will. But I'm not stupid: just the possibility that I may have one absolutely deters crime. Not so much while on the street, but in my car or home, absolutely. I'm very happy that so many other people have them.

Twice I've walked in unarmed on home invaders and lived to tell about it. First time the escaped rapist/murderer came after me with a rifle in hand and I bolted. I was lucky...and fast. Second time I walked in on the dude through the front door and he bolted out the back door.Lucky again. Investigating officer pointed out dude was about ready to rip the copper wiring out of the walls of my home and most likely it was someone in the neighborhood. Advice...get a good home security system with cameras tied to your smart phone. Believe me I don't live in the ghetto. Now I carry heat....all the time. Be patient, eventually you will learn to carry heat all the time just like I do. Crazy world with some bad people out there. A nice handy .380 pistol should do the trick. Trust me.

Have a nice day!

I live in a great neighborhood, i own several handguns and long guns. Some people act like gun owners are cowards, I think a well armed citizen is probably not scared of anything. I believe every law abiding American citizen should observe their constitutional rights. The main difference between citizens and subjects is citizens have a way to defend them selves from a tyrannical government. Before y'all poke fun and say that would never happen go read your history books. Read about what lead up to WW2 or the Russian civil war. Every genocide by a government has began with disarming the citizens.

How anyone in their right mind can sit there, look me in the eyes and say "If someone breaks into your house, call the police and hide" and be totally serious is beyond me.

I live in a very safe neighborhood but we had a string of robberies a few years ago here and someone walked in on the people in their house.

I live in the safest area of Mississippi. I keep handguns in the safe when at home. I only carry when outside the home.

If an intruder breaks in, the dog will get him. I'll just grab my staff

What good is it then? Are you going to throw it at a home invader or someone trying to harm your family. I would MUCH rather have it loaded and ready in case I ever needed it, than not have it ready and need it. 50/1 odds you say? What are you going to do when that 1 rolls around? Call the cops and let you and your family be robbed or killed in the 15 minutes it takes them to get there?

I have no problem with people who want or own guns. Personally, we have 4 and 6 year old boys who would DEFINITELY find and shoot either each other or something/someone. I see no point in having a gun where I keep the ammo and the gun in separate places etc. What do you do tell the intruder.."uh, wait a second while I go get my bullets?"

Probably there are smarter ways to manage that issue, but with the kids in the house and knowing our boys, just NO.

I keep mine in a quick access(code required) gun vault. Safe and secure, but can be opened and weapon in hand in 5 seconds. Have 1 next to my recliner, and 1 on my nightstand.

Most people will never need it.

But what happens on the day that you aren't most people.

I wouldn't want to get caught with that gun with that serial number. It's been reported as stolen.

4&6 yr old boys need to be taken to the range and find out what a gun does. Helps with the curiosity part and also teaches it's not a toy.

Even if you don't have a gun be sure to teach your boys gun safety and make sure they completely understand. You can never be sure how other parents secure there firearms and the last thing you want is your boys over at a friends house or something and they think it's cool to check out that dad's guns and they don't understand the danger.
