I wouldn't do that. If you need to have a cash bar just do beer and wine and save that way. It'll keep your uncle from drinking the hard stuff and trying to f*** any of your female inlaws.

I have only been to a few weddings of my wife and I's very closest friends. It's just not my thing and everyone around me knows that. My wife goes all the time and I don't even get asked usually. When I had my daughter's wedding, it was kind of understood we would probably get the same reaction that I give but that was not the case. So, only because of that I decided to pay for an open bar. I would not other wise pay for a bunch of fools to drink on my dime when I only see most of those dick heads every few years. Generally, one should probably expect free wine, beer and soft drinks; anything else is gravy. frick paying for an open bar unless you have good reason.

Cash bar isn't my thing, but I can understand not buying liqour as it was more than our venue...which wasn't cheap.

Honestly shouldn't have done it.

As for the money dance, if it has anything to do with money, that's trashy. However, we did it for tradition reasons. I could care less about the money. Hell, not like the wife earned enough to pay the damned liquor bill anyways.

Just had my wedding last Saturday at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. We had an open bar, and the NASA super computers are still calculating the bill.

The only shitty thing that happened, was Huntsville PD decided to put up a DUI check point pretty much at the exit of the venue. Fortunately, we had shuttles and cabs for folks that did drink too much and none of our guests got busted.

I agree that money dance is the trashiest. After that, the buffet dinner. Cash bar during dinner, or after a social hour isn't so bad but still not my ideal.
The cash bar to me sort of depends how long the day's events last.
Still a buffet wedding is like a neighborhood BBQ Imo.

I don't go to weddings unless I'm actually IN them.

And when I do, I show up drunk and bring a flask, so it's no biggie.

Sit down dinner weddings suck. Nothing more fun than being stuck in an assigned seat for an hour.

You sound really butthurt. And I hate using that term.

ETA: And if you bothered to understand what I was saying, you'd have noticed I didn't say anything about you being poor.

Better than the buffet of roast beef, rolls, square cheese, grapes, and cubed ham.

I personally tipped all of our bar tenders a couple hundred dollars in cash, directly into their hands.

I'm pretty sure they cut my final "tab" in half, at least. A buddy of mine had recommended doing this beforehand and it really paid off. I mean, I would have tipped them anyways, but my buddy had advised going overboard and making the transaction before last call.

That's complete BS.

How does the OT feel about beer and wine being free, then liquor has a set tab. Once that tab is out you buy your own liquor.

If everything isn't handed to you free of charge on a silver platter, it's trashy

Stay at home. That way, both of you can be happy.

You realize there's buffet style without being that crap right?

Pretty wealthy friends of our rented our Arnaud's on a Saturday night and had the most incredible raw bar I've ever seen, a made-to-order sautéed mushroom station, like 20 different passed hor d'orves, etc.

Being actually served a sit down dinner sucks imo.

No.

They are a step above alcohol free receptions, though.
