In your opinion. Hopefully you don't have a daughter.

I have to go to a distant cousin's wedding, but he's poor so it will probably be a cash bar. It's going to be awful.

Beer, wine and champagne were on the house at my wedding. If you wanted more than that, you needed to break out the billfold.

CSB: After a small snafu at the reception, the reception party that stayed on site at the plantation where we were married was invited by the GM of the restaurant also on site to bring the party to the bar. Where we promptly got sh!t hammered. For about 1/10th of what the actual bill was.

Was one of the best wedding's I've ever attended...and it just happened to be my own.

I went to a wedding where the family has 3 girls and 2 boys and the father has a job with the State of La. He had a cash only bar because he doesn't have the means to spend that kind of money on alcohol. They had great food, a good band and everyone had a good time, even if they paid for their drinks. You are not entitled to free alcohol at the expense of some guy barely making it and trying to take care of his family.

Would you rather a cash bar or a dry wedding?

At least you'll have the option to drink

This, geez.

No a cash bar isn't as nice as a full one, but it sure beats the alternative of no alcohol at all.

Agreed. Instead of inviting 400 people and paying for beer/wine/champagne - invite 250 people and pick up the liquor too.

And the 150 people you exclude, make sure they're the fricking in-laws that you cant stand!

OP has an SMU symbol in his or her avatar.

Complains about poor people and weddings with cash bars.

Take notes OT-baller-wanna-be's, because this is how it's done.

I assume most dry weddings are done because of religious reasons, which i can (pretend to) respect. That's a lot better than being cheap.

only if they're religious.

I actually think the money dance is worse than having a cash bar in terms of the trashy scale though.

You should never invite people to a reception and have a cash bar. Having beer, wine, champagne is not expensive, relatively speaking, and 95% of those who drink will be happy. Cash bars at a party you are hosting is socially unacceptable and tacky. Do not do it!

The kind of person who would find a cash bar "unacceptable" would never be invited to my wedding anyway.

To the OP, maybe he feels obligated to invite you bc you're kin. Do everybody a favor and don't show up with that snobby attitude.

Yes, they can be acceptable when that is what the bride and groom can afford so long as they did not do things like overspend on their honeymoon, buy each other matching 22" rims for a gift, etc.

Vey true. If you're that poor, you could spend $500-$1,000 and get a couple kegs and a couple cases of 2 buck chuck from Trader Joes and everyone would still be happy.

Cash bar is fine of wine, beer & champagne are provided.

Assuming this is a venue with a bar setup already in place.
