Do you not realize encryption is basically all or nothing? Did you see what happened when the TSA required special locks on luggage that only they were supposed to have the master key to unlock it? They posted a damn picture of the key on their website and people started copying it, and wha la, now anyone can open your luggage locks. What good is a lock that anyone can open? So say Apple does build a back door, how long before Russia, China, et al. crack it?
ETA: Nothing to see here folks. This is just a giant troll by CAD that gives him a misguided excuse to hate on Apple.
Also, anyone that follows tech has known this to be the case with iPhones since at least iOS 8.

I really hope that if the police show up at your door with a warrant one day, you don't just open the safe because you think you have to. At least make them bust out the torches.
But I was talking about the manufacturer having a way to get in, Not the owner turning over a pw, which I'm pretty sure you're protected from under the 5th amendment.

What is the point? How is this any different from executing a search warrant ?

I agree with you but

Because they don't have the password! They have to create a back door and negate decades of engineering and security which in return puts everyone's personal data at risk. It's not that difficult to understand the significance of this.

not an apple fan, but they are doing it right here

CAD, stupid are you?
Tim Cook
What he is refusing is to do is to build in a back door into iOS that could be used on every iPhone.
I hope you are embarrassed as you should be for this thread.

When the FBI has requested data that’s in our possession, we have provided it. Apple complies with valid subpoenas and search warrants, as we have in the San Bernardino case. We have also made Apple engineers available to advise the FBI, and we’ve offered our best ideas on a number of investigative options at their disposal.

Probably before the FBI had it because their intelligence services are undoubtedly sitting in Apple's corporate network. The real question is how fast criminal groups would have the backdoor. I'd give it a week.

In the interest of national security I fail to see how Apple can't take the phone and copy the contents to turn over to the FBI.
And if this is his work phone wouldn't the owner actually be his employer who can give permission?

The crazy thing is the vast number of people in this thread that have zero concept of how search and seizure works
Word. I just think it's interesting that Apple even said, supposedly, they couldn't access her phone.

Apple. does. not. have. the. encryption. key.

I wonder why they haven't tried to 3D print his finger prints to see if he had that feature set up to bypass the numeric code

Y'all are the ones being naive that Apple has no way to access these phones.
Why would they lie?
Posted on 2/17/16 at 8:42 am to CAD703X
Because the encryption key used is unique and generated for that device by that device. The iPhone won't let a computer (Mac or PC) communicate with it without that key. So they can't make a copy without unlocking it.

So they can't make a copy without unlocking it.

It's encrypted

So, the FBI can ransack their home or hideout for any information hidden there, but they aren't allowed to search the phone?
Seems like the search warrant theory would apply to this also.
This is dumb.
