Made a ton of money and partied like Mick Jagger as a broker...

I did it for 6 years and loved the thrill of a big sale. The rush is hard to explain.
No matter the business, a lot of money will give anyone a rush!

No doubt. The best was an IPO sale. People calling from across the country, mostly hedge funds. Allocated 200K shares at .40 commission. Boom, makes a nice day. In 1991 at age 26. No work for 2 weeks.

I'm the exact opposite. Could not imagine that lifestyle. I hate being a salesman. I like being an "account manager". When I took the job, we were supposed to have all my customers work lined up and I just had to keep them happy. We lost one customer due issues out of my control. Now I'm doing kind of a "cold call" thing with them. Just stopping by to check on what they're up to and hoping they throw me a bone. I'd starve if I had to do this all the time in order to get a paycheck.

Doesn't apply for me and my situation for certain. In fact, they do everything possible to support me. In essence, I am my own company and independent of my parent. We depend on each other a great deal and have a great relationship. I sell and they provide world-class service and support to both me and my clients. I play golf when I want. Sleep late? Why not. Vodka tonic at lunch? Sounds good! Make it a double. It's not for everyone but then again, 100 %'ers are a different breed. Winners. Hustlers.
Yes, Yes, and Yes. I have to hustle the business, but I also like the money. Typically I can have an awful month and my commissions still pay the bills. Be prepared to go the first 6 weeks or so without a check. Also be smart and save money for a bad month or two. Commission only can be very rewarding. I came from a desk job making nice money, and wouldn't go back for the security.

Bust loose. Sometimes nuggets of advice trickle in on this board remarkably.

Medical Sales, 100% commission.
Worked my arse off to get here and wouldn't trade it for the world.
We take VERY good care of the customer, which as someone said earlier, makes or breaks you.

I was in a 100% commission job for most of 2008. Those were good times.

I own my own web development company. 100% commission, no draw check no nothing if i don't sale i don't eat. and there have been times where i have not ate.
I'll say this, sales is not for everyone. You either love it or you hate it.
I like the fact that I can pretty much write my own check at this point. I really like the fact that in my line of work a US based web company that doesn't charge 75 an hour that does good work is like liquid gold half the work we get now I don't even have to look for people just throw it at us larger firms outsourcing work but don't want to go overseas
In a good month.. this month.. i'll make somewhere between 20-30k depending on a few deals if they go through or not.
In December - January I'll be happy to make 5k
With that said I'm extremely good at my job. I also get closing commissions like larger firms will bring me in to help close a client and i'll get a 10% cut off that as well. Like, this is what I was put on earth to do lol.
