Any entrepreneurs do this. Especially when starting off.
Think about it...
If you can survive commission only, you might make the transition over entrepreneur.

Was always told to stay away from those jobs....company has no stake in you.
Doesn't apply for me and my situation for certain. In fact, they do everything possible to support me. In essence, I am my own company and independent of my parent. We depend on each other a great deal and have a great relationship. I sell and they provide world-class service and support to both me and my clients.
I play golf when I want. Sleep late? Why not. Vodka tonic at lunch? Sounds good! Make it a double.
It's not for everyone but then again, 100 %'ers are a different breed. Winners. Hustlers.

Actually the top 2% of the 100% ers are another breed. 50-98 make a good living, the bottom 50% come and go frequently

I work in 100% commission sales but deal with retailers and our routes are all set up to make at least a certain amount..... Anything else is incentives plus pure hustling

In car sales. 100% commission. I get a $750 draw every Friday and then on the 15th I get my commission check from the previous month minus $3250 in draw.
Works out pretty well for myself. Just bought a new house, truck and boat

And I admire that. Even though you have a set client base it's not easy. Makes you stronger.
I'll be honest, my comms are pretty high. My lowest product is 20% and my highest is 35%. That's from 1 tube of grease, a gallon of fluid, a drum or a tank. shite adds up quickly.

I'm pretty close, but with a great customer base, hard work, building relationships, being honest, doing what you say, knowing your product and applications, knowing your competition, etc. will go a long way.
I also am supplies a vehicle, fuel card, PCard, and phone. Other benefits as well like 401K with matching, profit sharing, Med ins, etc. Training should be big for them and finding a mentor is even better. You can make bank if there are no caps on commission.
There is a lot more to consider. Product availability, philosophy on customer service in the company. You can work your arse of getting an opportunity and making a sale, only to see it ruined by some clerk who gets paid weekly or bi weekly and says something or drops the ball in something to the customer.
Your company needs to have a strong support system in place.

Depends on history. My experience has been those companies were not invested in you OR the customers.
However, that was pretty standard in mortgage industry. Flip side is you don't want someone getting too comfortable on a base.

WhyIoutta...
We need to talk then! You also do service and rentals? Have an idea on the heavy EQ rental front that needs to be beta'd. Could be very lucrative for the right outfit.

I'm in sales and am glad I can still earn a nice check if I have a bad month. We get base and commission

I did it for 6 years and loved the thrill of a big sale. The rush is hard to explain. First 18 months were tough, but I made some serious money after that. 250 cold calls a day... smile and dial.

Yep, left the brokerage business to run the family business when dad decided to play golf 5 days a week. Couldn't turn down that offer. Less stress is a good thing.
