I have quite a few friends that bike to work. They live in
Spanish Town, Capital Heights, Beauregard Town. Some do not own cars. Some have crappy will-die-any-day-now cars. One has a very nice, new car but feels the distance is too short to justify driving daily.

No one is biking from St George.

I rode my back to work and class for 4 years at LSU. I had a truck. Biking was just quicker and easier than parking a vehicle and walking through campus.

I see several bikers every morning going to school or work passing down my street in NOLA, aside from the recreational bikers.

How has this thread not been anchored yet? The topic asks for information on a hit-and-run driver and has predictably devolved into a pissing match between cyclists and motorists.

Drop the anchor.

not 90 degrees all year round

Well of course it isn't. But over half of the year it is warm enough in the morning to where you would break a heavy sweat unless you were riding just a very short distance.

In the north, biking year round is a much more feasible option.

What about all of the people in New Orleans who ride outside the actual designated bike lanes? What's their excuse for getting hit?

There aren't bike lanes everywhere.

right

thus I was talking about people living in urban neighborhoods, in which they probably have short commutes

I didn't say no one does it. I just don't see how it will become a popular thing to do in the south.

Eta: ok I did say no one does it. I was exaggerating.

The thing that trips me out is people in cars getting all flustered about pedestrians and cyclists. I don't mean when they're doing something stupid, I just mean in general. I notice it a lot more when I'm walking. Like frick dude, I'm gonna be walking for 20 minutes, you're sitting your arse in a seat in a car and moving pedals, settle down. It's gonna be ok. Apologize for your 5 seconds or you feeling like you need to swerve slightly.

You tried riding a road bike on the sidewalks in LA?

and then what happens when some family is taking a leisurely stroll with their kids onthe sidewalk and a group of cyclists come flying by?

cyclists certainly don't belong on sidewalks

When you come upon a family taking a leisurely stroll...slow down and yield to them. The same as you make all the cars do to you constantly.

It sucks doesn't it? But it's better for traffic if you're on the sidewalk and have to slow down once in a while than to make traffic come to a walking pace down Highland.

If y'all want iron man train on a 55 mph highway, might as well start swimming laps across the Mississippi. It's legal too isn't it?

Riding a bike on a sidewalk is illegal and dangerous to bikers and pedestrians. GTFO with your ignorant talk.

But...Alert me when there's a thread for a hit and run of a cyclist and a person walking on the sidewalk.

Well, you did post this gem...

quote:

as my generation shuns the suburbs and moves more into urban areas, cycling is just going to become more popular, so all the rednecks better get used to it

it would be beneficial for everyone to have just a little bit of awareness of their surroundings

Take responsibility when you choose to ride in the road, with cars.

You move to the inner city and I will move farther out to be away from your ilk. Increasingly, smaller cities and communities will be created that adhere more closely to those living in it. That is why I am all for St. George. I signed the petition and will be voting for it. And I will fight against any lenience toward annoying cyclists. Hopefully all the cyclists will just stay in Baton Rouge.

The same way that disagreeing with you makes others rednecks probably.

Beautiful day to ride if it's anything like here right now.
