You tried riding a road bike on the sidewalks in LA?

and then what happens when some family is taking a leisurely stroll with their kids onthe sidewalk and a group of cyclists come flying by?

cyclists certainly don't belong on sidewalks

Ask yourself this:
Cyclist hits person. What are the odds that someone dies?
Car hits cyclist. What are the odds that someone dies?

there's been a cyclist who constantly gets in my way going down essen during rush hour. I want to mow him down, but I haven't.....so that's good, right?

neither would turn out well

that is the issue

cyclist certainly don't belong on sidewalks, but nobody wants them on the roads either

but with the cycling culture growing as it is in urban areas, cities are going to have to do something

southern cities just seem to not want to invest in bike lanes and if they do, they are poorly planned

as my generation shuns the suburbs and moves more into urban areas, cycling is just going to become more popular, so all the rednecks better get used to it

it would be beneficial for everyone to have just a little bit of awareness of their surroundings, that goes for car drivers and cyclists

just simple awareness and kindness to your fellow human beings and we wouldn't have these goddamn problems

Please

The average car driver is much more of a nuisance than the average cyclist

Everytime there is one of these threads that is proven to be incorrect. Quit being asses and then you'll be treated better.

Just seeing a cyclist pisses some people off. I've been yelled at for riding on a neighborhood road by a guy going 60 mph. And I'm the a-hole?

but the problem is in order for me to get to the bike path along the river, I have to ride about 1 mile on a 2 lane road with no shoulder that people drive about 50 mph on that road is the only road that connects my neighborhood with the bike path lack of infrastructure puts cyclists in bad positions sometimes

Can't you load your bike into your car/truck and park it by the bike path?

What about all of the people in New Orleans who ride outside the actual designated bike lanes? What's their excuse for getting hit?

I mean...I could

but that is a big hassle just to cover a 1 mile stretch of road

did I claim there are not a-hole/dumb cyclists?

but a lot of bike lanes, especially in southern cities, suck balls

Seems like a better option than possibly being hit by a car and killed.

it is

if I want to ride the bike path, I do it early in the morning on the weekends when traffic is low

its just a shame that people lack such awareness that I fear for my safety riding on road

I know people have a thing against cyclists, but they should be able to use the roads and not be worried about getting killed if they are following traffic laws just like everyone else.

What about the people who use a bike to get around and don't have a car? We just say stay at home? Don't go to work or school?

I don't claim to have all the answers but 99% of people that live around me are recreational riders.

Are you saying that biking will become more popular as a means of general transportation? Just don't really see that happening in the south. At all actually.

I bet pretty much every biker in this thread is a recreational biker. No one is riding bikes to work in 90 degree heat and taking a shower when they get there.

The problem in BR is that there aren't that many cyclists and people don't see them everyday, along with there being no bike lanes, so people do nothing but bitch.

I don't really even think any different of cyclists on roads in NOLA anymore, and nobody ever seems to complain about it here.
