Anyone know how long the Scientology church has been on airline in BR? I just noticed it

I think it's been in that location a year or two. Before that, it was located behind the current location in that medical community for at least the last 15-20 years.

One more question though. Is it standard procedure for them to mail out notifications that a Scientologist moved into the neighborhood?

Yeah that happens in most states these days. I feel like you're focusing on the wrong parts here.

Now one more question for you. How much would you normally expect to pay for a personality test done by a real scientist?

L Ron Hubbard sounds cool like a sci fi writer, but Lafayette Ron Hubbard sounds cooler like an old school pool hustler or poker pro.

IDK. I'd imagine it's pretty expensive though. My uncle has to sell ice cream out of his van in his spare time just to make ends meet.

Look your uncle is obviously a great man and a great scientologist. Why don't you come on down to the center for you FREE personality test and we can get you living up to your full potential. Then you can start touching kids' lives just like he did. What do you say, ready to embrace life?

Oh, ok -that makes me feel a little better knowing that there are only 50,000 of those weirdos running around instead of 8,000,000.

Tom Cruise

One item from the VF article that struck me as particularly odd, was that David Miscovige reportedly enjoys reading aloud the transcripts from Tom Cruise rehashing his sexual encounters. Miscavige's wife found the encounters gross and creepy.

I think that's a bit much. So trying to use tools at your disposal to better yourself is bizarre?

Scientology isn't any more bizarre than attending college or avoiding gluten. And they help a lot of people.

My wife's first husband is a scientologist. He quit his $200K per year job and spent their savings on "getting clear". He later asked for a divorce because she refused to become a scientologist. Fortunately, she still has a functioning brain and happily divorced that crazy fricker.

Scientology is a cross between a Cult and AmWay.

This is funny, because there is a Dentist in Thibodaux who was first big into Amway and is now a Scientolgist.

I took a World Religions class and for our final project we were each assigned a religion to study and I drew Scientology.

Contacted them to get information as it is good to compare what they say as opposed to what outside sources say.

Ended up meeting with a guy from Shreveport who was a scientologist. He gave me a copy of Dianetics and another book that supposedly taught you how to be "clear" and had an entire section devoted to testimony about how their methods were successful at curing people.

Most of the entry level stuff wasn't much different than basic meditation techniques that you can find anywhere. There was nothing in the books that were really that bizarre.

The actual church was pretty open about giving out pamphlets and books on lower level stuff but were pretty guarded about releasing any high level stuff. They basically made it where they wouldn't answer anything unless you went through their levels which of course cost a ton of $$$.

The higher level stuff seems to be where they get really bizarre and most of that stuff has been leaked and easy to find.

I took the World Religions course around 1999-2000 and they still e-mail me every now and then trying to get me to order a book, DVD or go be their church to get audited.

One thing I will say is that it definitely is centered around $$$ and everything they offer you cost a pretty good bit.

I also got the feeling that their is a difference between the scientology presented to celebrities and what the present to normal people.

The upper stuff definitely had a cultish feel to it. The guy I met was very nice but I could definitely tell he was trying to recruit me and get me to join. You could also tell he was well schooled in selling scientology to people.

I will say that it was definitely interesting to study.
