I think it was from a Vanity Fair article about the missing wife of their leader, David Miscavige. She hasn't been seen in public since 2007...

I read several articles, not sure which one that number came from, but think it was VF

My roommate's mom in college was in it. She married a dentist and they sent my roommate to some "training classes". One time he came back and told me he had spent the last few hours staring at other people across a table (no talking) to help build self confidence and to help him be more comfortable looking people in the eye. I told him it sounded like psycho school, and he eventually told her thanks but no thanks on more classes.

I think that's a bit much. So trying to use tools at your disposal to better yourself is bizarre?

Scientology isn't any more bizarre than attending college or avoiding gluten. And they help a lot of people

Xenu says hi.

Seriously. They are nothing but a scam. Going Clear documentary ruined that organization, and showed the world how screwed up LRH was.

I was having a Thetan problem. He gave me an estimate on Thetan removal, but I thought it was a little high. I just bought some stuff from Walmart and handled it myself.

Seriously, if they ever approach you, don't give them ANY information.
They came into my work 15+ years ago, and have tracked me from that address.
I've moved twice, and they still send me junk mail once a week!

This is true. My uncle is a Scientologist and he's always helping kids. He spends almost all his time talking to kids online about their problems. He even meets up with some them if they need a lot of help.

It rarely comes to that. But when it does, it's both unfortunate and necessary. Thetons kill, by comparison "blackmail" is a pretty minor inconvenience.

One time I was walking down the street and decided to take a free personality test. The test administrator told me I was super depressed and that the Church of Scientology could help me if I paid $240. So I gave them the $240, which I had been saving for a new bike, and I was taken into an auditing room where an attendant checked my thetan levels using an E-Meter. She couldn't believe my test results so she sent them off to headquarters in Los Angeles. The president of Scientology told me my scores were so high, that I must be the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard. It was pretty weird.

Found a Scientologist

This is more than I could have hoped for. I figured I would get some good 1st hand accounts of interactions with them, but didn't dare hope to flush one out.
