I use both. There are a lot of "non grocery" items on amazon that I may not need immediately that are cheaper than local places.

I still like being able to go to the store and buy food. I'll gladly pay $8/month to avoid walmart trash.

Walmart has hit a price point where it's minuscule savings aren't worth the shopping experience that is Walmart.

Their stock value and earnings reflect this.

They are approaching the online shopping experience the same way; poorly.

Subscribe and save never works for me. I make my first order and then the subscription is canceled before the next one by the seller. Besides that everything else is way more expensive. But I keep trying to make it work. Some day

While this is economical now, I am not sure it will be long term. Amazon purchases will eventually be taxed like everything else. Rather than costing you $1 for convenience it will cost $7-$10 depending on your local sales tax rate.

As someone mentioned you have to count gas and the value of your time. I value my time at way more than 10 bucks an hour.

Still worth it, IMO. I like the idea of ordering groceries in Wednesday when I'm out of town for work and having them show up in Friday when I get home.

Well, there are two things you can do. 1) Cancel the subscribed item, after delivery. 2) Or, you can manage the delivery of your items. I usually just look at my subscriptions once a month and postpone or request sooner as needed.

Not to mention it comes in a box. None of that nonsense take off shelf, put in cart, have it put in bags, put bags in car, drive home, take bags out in one trip (frick two trips), unpack 20 bags.

I have the biggest problem with this with paper towels. Seems like they always get canceled after the first shipment. Other stuff, I have been pretty fortunate. Does suck though when a good item gets canned.

Unfortunately, prime pantry does not have 2 day shipping, it comes through usps and my first shipment took almost a week, it is still very nice and will cut down on our Wal mart trips but not eliminate them.

Re online shopping, I just came across this:

Book Publishing Needs Socialism to Save It

quote:

In France, where Amazon only owns 10-12% of the book market—but 70% of online sales, Amazon is contained because of laws passed to protect and support bookstores and publishers.

The law says online sellers can’t offer free shipping on discounted books. Further, booksellers can’t offer more than a 5% discount off a book’s cover price.

I wish it were that way here.

In Germany, books can’t be discounted. In fact, six of the 10 biggest book-selling countries have versions of fixed book prices—Japan, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Germany, and France.

Britain used to have a fixed-price system into the 1990s—but once it abandoned it the book world was hit hard. A third of its independent bookstores closed in the past nine years, as supermarkets and Amazon discounted some books by more than 50%.

In France, where only 3% of book sales are e-books, 70% of its citizens report having read at least one book last year. The average among French readers is 15 books a year.

Wow, that's a good bit of reading for an average. Good for them.

What else are they going to do on their 3-hour lunch breaks?

Amazon is a price follower of walmarks for many items. I know this for a fact as they are a customer of mine. Should stay competitive with prices

Amazon Fresh in some areas gets you home delivery of fresh items. For me, Bay Area. You never have to leave the house!

I don't mind Walmart like some do, but I could see this info being useful to me sometime.

Thanks OP!

Seems like a great idea and I just went and checked it out. Unfortunately I dont find their selection of items to be all that great. They don't have the soda, shampoo, dog food, salad dressing, water etc that I prefer to buy so I'm still having to trek out to the grocery store for a lot of things.
I think in the future, this will be a great way to shop, but it's just not there yet for me.
