Its simply working for staples. I go to the grocery store/meat market for other things with a much shorter shopping list.

Can go to the butcher counter at Fresh Market and be out in 5 minutes. This option, while a little limited, will only grow. But its going to be a time and sanity saver, not necessarily a money saver.

Some people can handle it. I really despise going to Wal Mart and I don't like paying 2x for the same stuff at the grocery store. For the most part, Wal Mart is going to be the cheapest brick and mortar place for this stuff, and like I laid out in the OP, there's $1.04 in what I would call a monthly/6 week order of staples between going to Wal Mart and clicking a few buttons on Amazon Pantry.

Like another poster said, even if Amazon ends up charging tax in the future, my time is worth minimum wage at least.

Yeah we have an upscale neighborhood Walmart market. It's perfect and not too big. Nice clean floors,
Competent workers and nice eye candy during the day

Best part is they have 1-2 aisles of super walmart stuff so I haven't been back to a super Walmart since

I agree and wish I could find more ways to avoid walmart. I just find that when I need some of those items you mentioned, I need them like that day or the next. And I always need produce, dairy, meat, and cold stuff.

I always self checkout

i buy a ton of produce at any store i go to, and inputing all the codes for the fruits and vegetables is slower than standing in line. not to mention the fact that if you scan or bag items too quickly the machine shuts down.

Gentlemen and Ladies of the OT,

Like many of you, I despise Wal Mart. Not for political or anti-corporate reasons, I just hate going. The people suck, its always crowded, it takes an hour to get in and get out, the child is screaming for a toy, etc.

I like buying meat at a real butcher and buy produce at the farmers market already. But those items like sauces, mixes, spices, paper products, household goods, personal care - they are just so much cheaper at Wal Mart than the grocery store.

It was discussed on here last week the benefits of Amazon Pantry. I was talking to my wife and she said that we needed several items that fit into the Amazon Pantry mold. I like to research things, so I had her build a "Pantry Box" of things that we needed - 22 items, nothing special, things that most households with a 5 year old running around buy monthly.

I had nothing better to do this afternoon while the girls slept than to actually go to Wal Mart and compare prices.

Here are the results.

Wal-Mart $78.92 + 7% tax = $84.45
Amazon Pantry $79.50 + $5.99 shipping = $85.49

Out of 22 items, 2 were cheaper at Wal Mart (32 oz.brown sugar and kiddie vitamins), 4 were cheaper on Amazon (toothpaste, mouthwash, toliet paper and paper towels) and the other 16 were exactly the same or within two cents.

So, for $1.04, I can avoid crowds, redneck trash, screaming kids and wasting an hour or more of my day. I'm sold. Hope this helps someone that was considering it.

walmart ships free anything over 45 dollars which is something to keep in mind also

this also applies to large items like the 50 lb bag of dog food I buy almost every month

that will fill up your pantry box in a hurry

Subscribe & Save has been great, but I think I would prefer Amazon Pantry if I could create my own Personal Lists to make it easy and convenient. But I typically do not realize the need for a Pantry item until I'm low or out. This is has been eliminated with Subscribe & Save but I have had to buy in more bulk than I wanted.

For example, I need some carpet cleaner right now. Don't wanna spend 12 bucks for a Prime item but also don't wanna spend 6 bucks to ship 1 thing.

subscribe and save was awesome at first, but its been getting worse and worse

items are constantly out of stock or size options are changing so your subs get cancelled, etc.

i did about 2 years of diapers and wipes and saved a ton, but I feel like the savings aren't there like they used to be

the pantry system is good for people that don't have a huge "pantry" at home to store a lot of bulk, but the selection is lacking a good bit

all of these new systems amazon comes up with are seeming to try and discourage people from using 2-day prime shipping as much as possible

I shop at all local grocery stores and butcher shops. I don'y mind paying more for quality goods and better service. I am actually interested in this for somethings but for the most part I am going to support local stores.

I try to when I can, especially on meat (WalMart meat is terrible, and I'm a po non-baller). But sometimes the savings are just too much to ignore.

I have been doing Amazon S&S for almost a year. I recently did an analysis comparing the S&S price (with 20% discount) to the price on Wal-Mart's website. I estimated my annual use of the products and determined I save $400/year ($300 after $100 Prime membership) using Amazon over Wal-Mart. I have a wife and no kids so savings could be significant for people with kids.

the thing that you lose out on S&S or amazon for that matter is the store brands

there are lots of items that we have no problem using Great Value or other store brands

you really dont get that option with amazon, so you do lose out on some savings

I absolutely love amazon and use it a ton, but I'm more loyal to a better deal so I end up doing a lot of my grocery/goods shopping elsewhere

I dont really mind Walmart. Its very convenient, you can find all you need in one place all at a good price. But It is overcrowded and it pisses me off to no end when they have 3 lines open with a million people in the store. But in the end its not really that big of a deal to me.

I only go to Walmart when I need to do some mass shopping. If I'm only going to pick up some items I will go to Dollar General or another small grocery store. Where I am in/and out in 5 minutes.

A little bit of exaggeration though good effort.

I avoid shopping at Wal-Mart by shopping at Publix and going to Target once every other month when necessary. I estimate it costs me 10-20 bucks a month to do so, but that's a reasonable trade off for being able to avoid Wal-Mart. Plus there is a Publix every 100 yards in Atlanta, so it's convenient.
