My girlfriend's best friend is being married in July. Her wedding is on a Friday, she is having the reception with family and friends on the Saturday afternoon the next day.

I've met the bride and husband twice in my life. My girlfriend and I live 7 hours away. We're driving separately already because she has to be there Wednesday to get things ready for the wedding. I told her I didn't want to take a vacation day Friday and would rather go up Friday night and be there for the reception and rest of weekend.

She thinks I should be there for the wedding. I think, don't schedule a Friday wedding and expect for out of town acquaintances to be there.

Tell her you took off and then have something come up last minute. She'll probably still blow a groomsman, but it'll look like you tried.

No.

You don't need to waste a vacation day for irrelevant people.

I don't think you're an a-hole for that.

I would probably go up for the wedding, since your girlfriend is in it, but I don't think you're wrong either.

That's ludicrous. Who does that?

I think you are in the right.

No, dude. You're not an a-hole. That sounds perfectly reasonable.

Your gf sounds like a bitch right now. Dump her. Murder her.

Read again. If it were his wife the circumstances would be a little different. It's only his gf though

I dont think either of you is "wrong."

I would likely take off to go to the wedding. But I dont think you are being too unreasonable. But me personally, I would be there for my girlfriend if she wanted me there for a close friends wedding

I would convince her that not wasting that vacation day is the right choice by planning a vacation with her.

Friday weddings for Catholics are pretty much the norm these days in many places in south LA

This is a stereotypical "no-win" scenario for you.

How does your girlfriend make your sandwiches from 7 hours away?

You see this? This is why Fight4LSU makes the big bucks. He thinks of the important, big picture shite.
