If they can't easily get to $30 it sounds like this is Boogie's agent using the Mavs in hopes of getting more than 3 years from the Pels then. I say just call his bluff.
I think Dallas is going to use Lebron's drama to try to screw over Houston by going after Capela. They will have him sign a $25M offer sheet on July 1st. Rockets would have to match before Lebron finishes his free agency spectacular. Rockets eliminate themselves from the Lebron Sweepstakes or lose Capela.

That's sort of how they ended up with Chandler Parsons, it makes sense.

I hope they do that. Capela matches their timeline much better than Cousins anyway.

Being able to get Boogie for $25 instead of $30 would be pretty big. Assuming you can convince Rondo to return for $4-$5 and fill out the rest of the roster with minimums, an Ajinca dump would keep you under the tax.

I would throw $ down but have the option to bolt in year 3

Dell can’t be blamed for a guy tearing his achillies. That’s ridiculous
Not blaming him for that, I will blame him though that if we get nothing for him, because if we allow him to walk, it will be because a team gave him a max, or close to it. If that's the case, that means he still has value, and we are not in a position to get nothing in return for someone with outside value.

he traded a 1st (sam dekker) for asik
I think we’d all agree in hindsight it would have been better to lose asik for nothing
the trade for cousins is done and in the rear view mirror and there is no reason to make the decision to keep him or not based on what he cost to acquire

If we end up getting nothing in return for Boogie, after giving up 2 first round picks and only having him for ~1 season, then Dell needs to be fired.
Throwing out big money just to justify a trade isn't a good idea either.

I would offer a 1 (under the max) + 1 (the max) team option

Where did I say that? Boogie has enough value where I'm sure we can work out a S&T if we don't feel comfortable about his health.

I think all these sign and trade ideas are a pipe dream.
first have to sign him to a contract he will accept AND deal him to a team he wants (and wants him as is AND has pieces we want back not just salary junk)
there will be very little market for cousins, pels should hold firm and either sign him to the deal they want or wave goodbye.

Per ESPN article: How this draft sets up future trades and free agency
LINK
“Now, depending on whether Dallas retains the rights to free agents Seth Curry, Yogi Ferrell and Salah Mejri, the team has somewhere from $16 million to $24 million to go shopping for a center”
Not sure if there are any teams that will have max cap space, a need at center, and want to take a risk on Boogie given his personality and Achilles tear. Lakers are the only team that comes to mind. Any others?

Didn't realize they couldn't offer max money. I feel like if that's the case we could still offer closer to $30M for a 2+1 to try and beat out Dallas's offer. Hopefully that plus familiarity and the idea of playing for a top 5 team in the West will be enough to close the deal.

Yea, I’m sure Dallas could trade away salary to make it work, but it’s not like they just have the cash sitting there.
As another poster has stated, Dallas signed Wesley Matthews a couple years ago coming off an Achilles tear. He hasn’t been worth the money, and that has to factor into their decision.
Elton Brand is the only comp for a big coming off this injury. It took him a while to recover, and he wasn’t the same player. Add in all the guards (Kobe, Billups, etc), and the risk of throwing more than 3 years at anywhere near max scares the heck out of me.
If we go more than 3 and he’s not the same guy, then we are not going to have any flexibility to make moves in advance of AD’s free agency and be saddled with a crap contract if he leaves. The whole focus of the franchise needs to be positioning themselves to resign AD, and that means winning games.

Two years. Which make him 10 year vet after that contract.
Player option does not make sense for me. If he will be good -he will decline the option. If he will be bad - he will opt in.
Team option is good for NO. But he wont agree for it.
As for contract.
$46millions in total guaranteed money. $9 millions in incentives.
$22+4.5 in year one
~$24 +4.5 in year two
Incentives with number of games played in both seasons. Minutes and stats. All Nba etc.
Because he was injured recently -even 50 games played will be counted as unlikely.
Probably he wont take it.
But this type of contravt construction (suggested by Jason Calmes) makes most sense.

If that’s the pels offer I’ll bet a beer right now that’s the best offer he will get

I was thinking more about contract construction.
Still expect that he will get $25m one year elsewhere (f.e. LAL)

This stands out, even on a free, anonymous message board, for its pitiful logic
