Would you prefer Bledsoe over Jrue if their salaries were the exact same?

He mentioned Lowry and CP3. He stated they did not move on from Gentry/Dell because they did not want to repeat the same mistake as they did with Monte.

He believes (and I do too) that this team is one player away from contending. Of course we need bench, but those things come together when you have a big 3. Jrue is not considered a piece of the Big 3. He straight up said, "Jrue is not going to be on this team" no pause, no nomenclature, etc.

And I didn't really delve into trades. We started talking about the NBA playoffs and baseball, sorry.

Maybe the team is hoping somebody will overpay Holiday so they don't have to. There are many scenarios where a Holiday S&T is better than keeping him.
A S&T would be fantastic. Hope we can convince someone (i.e. Knicks) to agree to one.

I hope you're right, but Dell and Gentry have both said they want to resign him. I'll be glad when he signs with someone, so it's over and we can move on.

I don't put much stock in what they have said to the media. What else are they supposed to say? "Nah, we only want to sign Jrue if we don't have to overpay for him"?

I get that say things to the media tyat aren't always necessarily true, but why would they both repeatedly say things like "our number one priority this offseason is to resign Jrue" if they truly had no intention on bringing him back. They could make a polite BS statement without going that far with it.

I mean I don't think they don't want to resign him. They just want to be realistic about it. You have to say things like that especially to the fans who know they gave an arm and a leg to get him. I know sunk cost but there is also PR in it as well.

It's not just Demps, the Pels Twitter and PR accounts have been gushing about Jrue since April like they were running a marketing campaign. I don't think they want him to leave, but Cousins and Holiday's poor play post Cousins made Holiday much more expendable than he was in early February. If another team forces their hand, it will be a lot easier to walk away from Holiday now.

They have two VERY significant offers on the table right now. They want him but they aren't maxing

Since he hasn't said yes yet, some people in the organization are nervous and assuming the worst because... well the worst usually happens to this franchise. But why should he say yes if the offer will be there anyway?

I still put the odds of return at 75%. I just don't think he'll get the love he thinks he will

Then perhaps my guy was talking about Jrue's intentions and not the team's. Crewz, I would be more than happy to share who my guy is with you via back channels, if you are willing to dig further and not reveal the source.

I am pretty sure I know who it is because he has been telling one of our BSS guys the same stuff for a while

It shouldn't be difficult to convince another team to do a S&T: "Hey want some free money and a 2nd rounder for nothing?"

To be clear, there are people in the org who are worried Jrue will bolt. But he is still Plan A. Those offers aren't getting pulled and if the market is what I expect, he will run back

But his agent is selling it to them like he is gonna get multiple max offers. Which he should--- that's his job

So, is it possible to get Jrue back and still have the fire power to land a legit PG like Rubio OR Lin? I think Jrue at the 2 and a facilitating PG moves the needle quite a lot, especially if we figure out a way to keep financial flexibility for a guy like Thompson in the future.

Those are mutually exclusive unless the prospect of bringing a PG in makes Holiday want to leave. Holiday coming back rather than leaving makes it more palatable to include Moore in a trade package for Rubio or Bledsoe.

Would you guys rather resign Jrue, to whatever offer, even a very reasonable one, or do a S&T?

Would we be better off doing the S&T? What kind of possibilities are we talking about if we were to S&T him? I know we've looked at it before, but things change.

The more I think about it, I really like this scenario proposed by our resident jerk who feeds us a ton of great info, that I appreciate.

Jrue signs elsewhere, no S&T.
We sign Jonathon Simmons and Shelvin Mack with cap space.
Trade for Lin or Rubio using Ajinca/Frazier/1st. Get the miraculous Asik for Mathews trade done. Simmons might be a hard get as a RFA, but i'd think Snell could be attainable as a RFA as well if we are willing to pay.

Team would look I think, better than anything we could do keeping Jrue and just using the MLE. Not sure how realistic it is though.

Lin/Mack
Mathews/Moore/Crawford
Hill/Simmons
AD/DC/Diallo
Cousins/bring back DMo or Jones.

That's a very good defensive team, and it sets us up really nice in 2 years from now when someone like Klay is looking to leave. Lin and Mathews would expire, Hill and Moore would be on their last year of their deals and likely very moveable. You'd really only have AD/Cousins on the books at that time, and whoever you'd get with the MLE next year.

I think resigning Jrue makes it to where the only way we can improve is through trades, and we don't have a lot of assets. Letting him walk allows us to still be a good team in the present, but gives us some flexibility for the future.

MM's best guess is Holiday resigns with the Pels for 5/$115. A deal like that would start out at $19.8 in the first year. If that were the case I don't think you'd have trouble trading Holiday when the time came and then keeping him is better than letting him walk. Pretty much all of the moves we've been kicking around the past month or 2 can happen whether Holiday stays or goes.

I'm not opposed to keeping Jrue, but I don't want (and I think the organization has learned) a situation like EGKnee, where we feel compelled to do it because of the sunk costs.
