Okay. He plays for the Cavs, though.

Just relax, once July strikes Asik will be gone and Demps will work some trade magic to bring a solid center in for a season until 2016.

Me too. It happens every time Mozgov fails to catch a ball … that means multiple times every game.

We need to plant Moz in front of a juggs machine and fire basketballs at him for 2 hours per day.

moz hands and shump dribbles are the ugly skit tracks on the otherwise beautiful rap album that is our season.

Maybe fans are just tougher on some of their own players and see the greener grass of guys they don't watch as much or have a vested interest in.

I am envious, but there's no point in crying about it.

I don't know, and I don't have the stats in front of me to back this up but he seems like he's in the same realm defensively as Asik (no clue who's statistically better), and he's much more explosive offensively. He can also make free throws at a good rate.

I'm not an Asik hater by any measure, though.

He is also playing with Lebron. Mozgov has not shown, without Lebron, that he is in Asik's tier IMO. I also think we should project Asik in Gentry's system rather than looking back at last year. When he was in Houston's pace and space system, his numbers dwarfed Mozgov. Heck, his post AS game numbers this year are better than anything Mozgov has done pre-James.

The last we saw of Asik was the GS series, and that is being weighed too heavily IMO. You don't make your evaluation based on 4 games. I mean, is Bogut terrible now? Is Curry a fringe starter? Dell a stud?

You look at the body of work, and how Asik played the last time he was in a fast system with spacing, and I think Asik has a lot more value than some give him credit for. You want a team that can run? You better get the rebound. That's step 1. I don't think he is great, but people who act like he is terrible aren't evaluating everything IMO

Asiks coordination, hands, athleticism, and offensive game is in a whole different lesser realm than mozgov. Asik still would not catch it if lebron threw it to him and I'm not basing anything on a few games. Asik has hands of a roided up bodybuilder slapping their elbows and hands together trying to catch a football.

I agree with that, and I'm interested to see how he fits in the new system. As I said, I'm not an Asik hater by any means, but he's definitely frustrating to watch at times. Mozgov definitely isn't in his league in terms of rebounding, but is the superior athlete and has explosion that Asik doesn't have. They are different players for sure, and you may be right that Mozgov looks better because he's playing with LeBron now, but he also didn't really get a chance as the full time starter in his time in Denver and New York.

Asik has flaws, but the Asik bashers only talk about the bad and fail to balance it out with the good. I mean, the guy shot 55% post AS break, gave us 8 and 10 in 26 mpg. Had an ORtg of 114 and a DRtg of 102. In his one year as a starter in a pace and space system, he put up 10 and 12 in 30mpg, shooting 54%.

There is good too. It should be a balanced conversation without hyperbole on either side. And finally, the question has to be answered - If not Asik, then who? And when you start to look at realistic options, I think you usually come back to him as the best answer. Especially if he gives you close to what he gave Houston or what he gave us post AS break.

Golden State played their centers for a total of like 5 minutes tonight

What people don't want to accept about Asik is that he is both limited/one dimensional, and worth $8-$10 million. If he was making Aaron Gray or Ajinca money, there'd be a lot less complaining. But you aren't going to get far in the playoffs with a $3-$4 million starting center. If Mozgov continues to play well in Cleveland he won't be staying at $5 million per year.

I think most logical non Asik haters would be thrilled with a <10 mil per year contract. 3 for 27 would be awesome.

Mozgov had Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green guarding him most of the night. I'd hope Asik could dominate those two in the post too.

The argument (for the Anti-Asik crowd) is on the Warriors side. They just won by 20 and played Bogut 3 minutes. THREE.
Vs the Cavs, that's supposedly where a Bogut (or Asik) proves their worth. Banging with Thompson and Mozgov.

I think people need here need to start realizing that we are a playoff team from here on out, granted we are relatively healthy.
Our goal is to no longer make the playoffs, it's to advance and compete for a championship soon, and eventually win one. That's the goal, and it's a realistic goal.

Everything is magnified in the playoffs. Weaknesses are exploited to a level not seen in the regular season. Asik can only guard one type of player, and that's another big slow center, and he did a shitty job at that against Bogut. The playoffs are all about exploiting matchups through picks.
There's nothing wrong with weighing heavily on his playoff performance. It's where you seperate the men from the boys, and he's the only guy on the team that played like a boy. Everyone else stepped their game up, despite Asik having twice as much playoff experience as the rest of the team combined.

quote:

the guy shot 55% post AS break,

He attempted 412 shots this year, over 400 of them were from less than 2 feet away. i'm not exaggerating, look at his shot chart. How is making half of your attempts from less than 2 feet away even somewhat good? He's 7'1"
Mozgov shot 63% on 500 attempts from under the basket
Bogut shot 65%
Koufos shot 59%
Kanter shot 62%
Gortat shot 69%
Dieng shot 58%
Steven Adams shot 57%
Biyombo 60%
Mahinmi shot 62%
Sims shot 58%

The guys that i can find that are at the 51% level of Asik was Robin Lopez and Zaza Pachulia, and i'm trying to look at guys with athleticism somewhat similar to Asik, not Deandre Jordan.

quote:

Had an ORtg of 114 and a DRtg of 102

The doofus in San Antonio had a high ORtg as well, can't even remember his name, that number is a product of the offense they are in and the players around them.

I would be thrilled with a 1 year deal. I'll give him a chance with a new coach and system. I wouldn't be thrilled with 3 for 27, but i wouldn't bitch to much about it. I wouldn't bitch about him so much if he just played with more effort. I know what he is and what he is and isnt' capable of, but to not give 110% to make up for the lack of basketball skills he gives us is what irritates me.
The Asik from late Game 3 or 4, where he was hustling his arse off, chasing down rebounds, tipping balls to keep them alive, if that Asik plays next year, i'm fine with keeping him.
