That should be a legal trade, and if they strike out on Chandler and Lopez it could be possible.
I would rather that than a long term Asik deal then.
We will have cap space the next two summers to make things happen at that position.
Zaza is the only guy i found that had a worst shooting % from under the basket than Asik
In this scenario, we would get Zaza and Dudley, giving up Asik, and we would still have the MLE and BAE right?
re: mozgov is everything I wish asik would bePosted by TigerinATL on 6/12/15 at 4:11 pm to TeddyPadillac
Yes. That trade would let you keep your exceptions too.
re: mozgov is everything I wish asik would bePosted by Crewz on 6/12/15 at 4:12 pm to TeddyPadillac
I think another thing to discuss is: Which Asik do you expect next year if re-signed?
A) 2012-13 Asik
B) 2014-15 Pre AS breakAsik
C) 2014-15 Post AS break Asik
I ask, because only one of those versions was below average. The other two were exactly what we would wanted 10 mil per year would be a bargain where the cap is going if we got either A or C.
A or C are massive improvements over a guy like ZaZa or any center we can get for the MLE. But if you expect B, I could see wanting to go cheap.

'13 Asik is the only guy that was good enough to make me want to keep him.
Asik was still shitty post AS break, and if that's what i'm getting for $10 million a year for the next 3 years
Just b/c he shot 55% from the field post AS break doesn't make him better. That's still shitty, considering all of his shots are under the basket, and he's 7 feet tall.
A is a an improvement over Zaza and Asik from last year. But even the Asik from '13 for the next 3 years at $10 million a year is something i'd rather not do.
I'd rather do somethign to patch the center position for just this year and go after someone next summer.
And I don't know what to expect to answer your question. it's not about skill, it's about his hustle and effort, which shouldn't be a problem, unless he's got an injury preventing him from trying harder.

You can't prove his hustle and effort was lacking, and I can't prove it was great. It is an eye of the beholder thing. All I remember is writing several recaps post AS break where I felt like Asik was one of the 2 or 3 most important players.
The hustle and effort thing always frustrates me. Heck, I heard people saying Lebron's was lacking last night. I think it is something people arbitrarily attach to players and/or use to explain the unexplainable (ex: We lost to X terrible team! We just didn't play hard!) <----- I hear that all the time. Maybe it is true, but I don't buy it unless I hear players or coaches call a guy out multiple times about it and Monty never felt that way about Asik and the players never said anything on or off record about him either.

When you see how much of a maniac he was in Houston, and then you see his play here, it's plain to see.

The explainable part is that he can't jump or move quickly, then unexplainable part is why he doesn't try harder to over compensate for his lack of athleticism when we see guards come jumping over him to tip a rebound away from him, which happens every game. He's a great rebounder, but when you watch him, you can easily see he could be better if he was more aggressive attacking rebounds.
I'm tired of seeing smaller guys slap his arm or even the ball and he misses a dunk, which happens at least twice a game. He's 7 feet tall, go up like a man and throw it down on them. Have you seen Mozgov get blocked yet?

For 1, who's going to call someone out like that publicly, and maybe it's an injury that's contributing to it.
And B, why would you hear anything on or off record about him from players or Monty?
The announcers in the playoffs ragged on Asik the whole series about how his effort was lacking and couldnt' understand why he was so bad.

I understand why we need to resign him. Best case scenario is it's a 1 year deal.
i'm not going to argue any of your points because they are valid, i dont agree asik wasnt trying/playing hard but thats hard to prove either way
but, you keep saying sign him to a one year deal like thats even a remote possibilty. yes it would be great for the pels, but asik would never agree to that. its not going to happen

I thought i made it clear that i don't think it will happen either.
Would he rather 3/27 or 1/14, if that's something we could throw at him for 1 year, if the front office is even thinking that he is not future.

He definitely looked lethargic at times. Not sure if all of it can be blamed on injury. In my head I see Asik going all dirty euro trash and smoking a pack a day when he's not at the gym I don't know why, that's just what I see.
quote:

It is. I think the flood of better centers on the market will limit his options. He won't sign a 1 year $10 million deal, but I think he'd sign a 1 year $14+ million deal. The problem with that is him making that much money and adding the MLE puts you close enough to the tax line that you might not be able to keep guys like Ajinca.

hey I'd be ecstatic if he signed a 1 yr contract
I just don't think it could be for enough money to entice him to do it
one bad injury and he's fricked
and ajinca is gone anyway
he cannot play in a fast paced offense and somebody will overpay him

The flip side is he gets a premium for this year and then next year he's a FA with a 40% increase in the cap and a lot less competition at center. We could also tell him we're going a different direction good luck getting even $8 per. This is really a bad year for Asik to be a FA, especially since the last thing everyone saw of him was being useless in the playoffs.

A 2 year deal with an option seems like the most mutually beneficial. 2/$18 w/ player option seems fair.

This. Asik dominated the Nuggets at least as thoroughly when they didn't play centers against us. He would look just as good against the midgets Golden State was playing defense. GS was alright with bleeding points at the center spot for whatever reason. If their strategy was to stop that, they would have played Bogut.

print the t-shirts, we beat the Nuggets.

He wouldn't and he didn't. He should have looked like Tristan Thompson has this series, but instead he just looked terrible and completely useless. He couldnt' even defend Bogut, which was the only reason he was in the game. Ryan Anderson actually played better one on one defense against Bogut.
I know Asik is better than that, and i have no idea why he looked so terrible.

Surprised the guy with the Asik avy hasn't shown up in here to tell us how amazing Asik is yet

Mozgov will be riding pine the rest of the way.
AD is our "big" or our "5". However Dell constructs this team, I sure hope it is with that in mind. We need a competent body to take some of the load off of AD, but that is it.
For cap purposes, sign Asik, but get ready to flip him in the next year or two.

Last 3 offensive possessions for Mozgov, fumbled pass in the lane and 2 blown point blank shots, he got fouled on the last one though. There are few 7 footers as coordinated and offensively able as most fans would like.

Yep. AD is our 5.
