Its a great thing to have cap space to facilitate trades, but if the trades don't come, you're left having to meet the salary floor. They'll be at like 15 million without Turner.

I don't think they have to meet the floor. They can be under it and then pay all of their players the difference, right? Maybe there is a fine involved as well. But not worth picking up bad contracts just to avoid that..

Ah, didn't realize nature of their pick.

Then again...do expirings really do them THAT much good?

True. Too much cap space can be a bad thing if it leads to nothing, or overspending.

They've been pretty bad, but they (the city and franchise) aren't Milwaukee in regards to being able to attract FAs. I don't think they'll land a LeBron or Melo, but they may be able to entice some "young vets" (sounds familiar?).

You guys realize Mayo is averaging 12 ppg on 39 percent shooting right?

He's of equal caliber to Gordon?

If they think the player has any potential, and the contract is not too long, it may be worth a shot (as they are going to pay the money anyway, with or without the player).

The difference is Gordon still has some potential. He's always been a full time starter and you have to wonder since this is his first full year back from a knee injury if maybe he'll improve some more next year. Mayo on the other hand has proven he's a part time starter, volume scorer type a la Ben Gordon, Marcus Thornton, etc. The way Gordon is performing now is probably on par with that, but if you want to talk yourself into believing there could be more, you can do it.

I haven't read this thread but if that's the trade - Gordon for Mayo- forget it. Do it for a young player or draft pick.
