Eric Clapton is the most overrated artist of all time. He might be technically brilliant but his songs are a massive bore, including that sappy, maudlin, uninspired "Tears In Heaven".

Clapton's early years, especially in Cream, I don't think can be overestimated.
But I partially agree with you in that he hasn't put out anything worth a shite since "From the Cradle." That's 20 years ago.

I'll throw Oasis out there. I don't know if they're "critically acclaimed artists" or not. But they are fricking lionized by their fans, and there apparently are a ton of them.
