However, it is unusual to remove a scene you have already teased in a trailer.

No it isn't.

I think at least one out of every 10 movies I see has trailers with a shot not in the theatrical release.

Do you really think the director is reviewing editing going "Damn.....taking this out helps the movie flow but two seconds of it was in the trailer. We are bound."

So 9 out of 10 movies usually have every scene that was shown in the trailers.

Do you know what unusual means? As I have said once, if it happens 49% percent of the time, it is unusual. 10% of the time definitely fits into the category.

The maneuvering of the dwarf army was pretty cool when they were moving like a Roman legion.

When they formed the phalanx was by far my favorite part of the battle. It was tremendous fun seeing a wall of dwarf steel.

I would love to see a movie or series of movies about the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. I would love to see a battle that had a true human army, true elf army, and true dwarf army fighting Sauron in his physical form and his army. But I guess the CGI complainers wouldn't care for it.

That would be amazing to see. But yeah, we'd definitely have to either dress up a guy in costume and makeup to play Sauron. Or actually conjure his spirit. Anything but CGI of course

I thought the movie was ok but I have pretty much the same beefs as everyone else and I really wish they would have done a better ending. I wish they could of shown the victory feast and then ending with Thorins funeral at the end. You could have also gotten a much better goodbye from Bilbo to his dwarf companions. I also wish they would of shown Bilbo telling Sam and Frodo his adventures when Sam and Frodo were kids. The Hobbit trilogy was good but you never got that sense of connection that LOTR gave you that made it so special.

The movie was enjoyable for what it was, but when it was over I did turn to my wife and say "if they would of just stuck to the got damn book it could have been epic!"

The battle in the book was a lot simpler and took place all in one location with none of the one-on-one fighting that seemed to drag at times. And I almost cried for what they did to Beorn. I mean how great would it have been for the beast to come charging into battle and cut his way all the way to Thorin?!? Was it to much to ask to give Beorn more than just 4 seconds of screen time?

This movie was probably the most poorly edited out of all 6 and I just can't figure out why they made it turn out the way it did. The first half of the movie was solid and the prelude to war was following spot on with the book; and then we see the damn sandworms and the directing and editing just went fricking haywire. Hopefully the extended addition will fill in some of the gaps this movie left.

I agree with most people that it should have been and epic 2 part movie that would follow the book and cut out the bull shite such as the teenage love story and that stupid little count servant of Laketown. How could Jackson let this happen after everything he gave us in the first trilogy? It just doesn't seems possible that he would of continued with some of this unnecessary bull shite, but maybe the sequence with Thorin's gold sickness was really about him and his own vast fortune. That fat/sometimes skinny dirt bag became too greedy and pulled a Star Wars prequel.

I know this sounds stupid, but when I first saw the photos of how the Dwarves of Thorin's company looked back in 2011, I just had this feeling that something wasn't right and I was worried. However the first Hobbit trailer came out with the Misty Mountain song and I thought everything was going to be OK because that whole trailer was just awesome. Then the movie came out, and then the Goblin King showed up, and well you know the rest.

The dwarfs did not fight sauron in the last alliance. The movies never realy portrayed it but dwarfs are awful people for the most part in these books. They hid in their underground kingdoms and let the humans and elves do the dirty work.

I would love to see movies on the War of Wrath which was middle earth word war 2. The last alliance was like a border war in comparison.

The remainder of the Dark Powers; an unknown millions of Orcs, the remaining Balrogs of Angband, countless thousands of Wolves, Werewolves, Wargs and Warg-Riders, flightless Dragons, Serpents, Wraiths, Vampires and other Evil Demons. Later reinforced by the hosts of winged Dragons. Uncertain; The greatest host ever assembled by Men and Elves;
undoubtedly Hundreds of thousands of Elves, Edain and Dwarves; an unknown number of Valar and Maiar from Valinor. Later reinforced by the Great Eagles

But who would you want to see produce and direct such an epic story? Would you give PJ another shot at redemption from his recent failure, or hand it over to someone such as Del Toro, or Abrams?

New up and comer. Have him study what went right in LotR and what went wrong in the hobbit and design something completely epic. I'm talking about a 10 year production. A freaking entire continent fell off into the ocean. Literally about every other page there is a story you could make into a movie in the sim. Also, there could be a badass badass badass children of Hurin movie.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong there. Durin's Folk fought in that war on the side of the Last Alliance.

Just saw the Hobbit for the 3rd time. It gets better every time I watch it. I absolutely love this movie. I also enjoyed watching Fellowship immediately after watching the Hobbit. It is a great transition.

What failure would that be? These movies were awesome and this latest will gross another $1 billion at the box office.

I'm not talking about financial success because these movies will ALWAYS make bank. This trilogy will not win a single Academy award and has been a disappointment to most fans and critics.

Here is another gripe I had.........was it really freakin necessary to have Dain's face in CGI??? Really??

No, sticking to the book would've been terrible. Would've felt more like a Narnia movie.

The first 2 Narnia's were great. The third was terrible.

But I agree regarding the Hobbit. All of the action with Gandalf occurs off-screen in the book. There is no characterization of individual dwarves in the book outside of Thorin. The movie was far more epic than the book.

I didn't mean to say the Narnia movies were bad, but they have a more kiddie feel to them than what PJ was going for. Like you said, they aren't epic in feel.
