there are some cringe worthy moments. Thankfully, we don't have any entire scenes that are cringe worthy like the escape from Goblin-Town or the Barrel Riding scene. But Legolas riding the bat and running up the falling stones was awful.
Well, I enjoyed the Godblin-Town and barrel riding scenes as well as Legolas's acrobatics. Like I said in a different post, this is fantasy. It is supposed to be fantastical.

The worst moment in the movie is when the reindeer impales the orcs and elf king decapitates them all at the same time.
I loved this scene. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
quote:
How does Thorin know that Bard slayed the dragon.
The 4 dwarves that had stayed behind in Laketown knew about it and told Thorin upon rejoining them in Erebor. I thought that was obvious.
quote:
How does the elf king know that Taurin loves Kili.
I never question elves in this universe. He is an elf lord, so he is wise and powerful. I assumed his heightened powers of perception led him there.
quote:
One thing I kept on thinking is why didn't the orcs keep the were-worms around. Those things would have wrecked shite just by themselves.
I actually agreed with this. But I got over that pretty quickly because the battle scenes were amazing.
quote:
I found Bilbo's and Thorin's relationship moving. I honestly was sad to see Thorin die and I found the last scene between them touching and I will miss the characters.
Agree 100%

Performances were mostly strong. I like most of the dwarfs and I will miss them. Balin and Dwalin were great and Bifir, Kili, and Fili all had me invested in them.
Also agree 100%

What you talked about was what I was expecting when they said three movies. Leaving it out (as they did) is why it could have been 2 movies.

Did anyone else notice there were scenes in the trailers that weren't in the movie?
Like the wolves chasing them down the frozen river for example.
You do know all movies have to make cuts in films for running time considerations, right?
Those scenes, and I wager, many more that people want to see, are being added to the extended edition dvd.
Those are the definitive versions of the movies for me.

No you didn't.
No, seriously. I agree with some of the other posters: they should have made it a cartoon.

Well, duh.
However, it is unusual to remove a scene you have already teased in a trailer.
For the record, I loved it for simply being what it was. A movie set in middle earth. Yeah it had issues, but i enjoyed the entire thing.

No, it is not.

If something happens less than 51% of the time, it is UN-usual. I realise it is not a rare action taken by film makers. It is however, unusual.

I am very glad we got 3 movies. I will spend as much time in Middle Earth as they will allow. I hope to God they make the Silmarillion into 12 movies.

I certainly agree with this.

Unlikely, at least not with PJ or del Toro. Christopher was apparently very unhappy with what Jackson did with The Hobbit.

All of this.

Unfortunately true regarding Chris. He has be to close to dying by now. He is 90. Maybe the next generation enjoyed the movies and will allow it.
PJ said this week he would do more films in Middle Earth if given the opportunity. There might be more they can mine from the appendices to Lord of the Rings. I would love to see an entire movie on Aragorn around the time of the Hobbit fighting down south in Umbar. The following is entirely from the Appendices to Lord of the Rings and, as far as I know, fair game to make into a movie without the Tolkien estate's permission.
quote:
Aragorn was a descendant of Elros Tar-Minyatur. His ancestor Arvedui was wedded to Fíriel, who bore their son Aranarth, making Aragorn the last descendant of Anárion as well.
When Aragorn was only two years old, his father Arathorn was killed while pursuing orcs. Aragorn was afterwards fostered in Rivendell by Elrond. At the request of his mother, his lineage was kept secret, as she feared he would be killed like his father and grandfather if his true identity as the descendant of Elendil and Heir of Isildur became known. Aragorn was renamed Estel and was not told about his heritage until 2951.
Elrond revealed to "Estel" his true name and ancestry when he was twenty, and gave to him the Ring of Barahir and the Shards of Narsil. Elrond withheld the Sceptre of Annúminas from Aragorn until he "came of the right" to possess the item. It was also around this time that Aragorn met and fell in love with Arwen, Elrond's daughter, newly returned from her mother's homeland of Lórien where she had visited her grandmother Galadriel.
Aragorn thereafter assumed his proper role as the sixteenth Chieftain of the Dúnedain and the Rangers of the North, and left the comforts of Rivendell for the wild, where he lived with the remainder of his people, whose kingdom had been destroyed through civil and regional wars centuries before.
Aragorn met Gandalf the Grey in 2956, and they became close friends. Heeding Gandalf's advice, Aragorn and the Rangers began to guard a small land known as the Shire inhabited by the diminutive and agrarian Hobbits, and he became known among the peoples just outside the Shire's borders as Strider.
From TA 2957 to TA 2980, Aragorn undertook great journeys, serving in the armies of King Thengel of Rohan, and Steward Ecthelion II of Gondor. Many of his tasks helped to raise morale in the West and counter the growing threat of Sauron and his allies, and he earned priceless experience which he would later put to use in the War of the Ring. Aragorn served his lords in disguise and his name in Gondor and Rohan during that time was Thorongil ("Eagle of the Star"). With a small Gondor squadron of ships, he led an assault on the long-standing rebel province of Umbar in 2980, burning many of the Corsairs' ships and personally slaying their lord during the battle on the Havens. After the victory at Umbar, "Thorongil" left the field and, to the dismay of his men, went east.

There is literally no difference whatsoever.

In LOTR, Legolas at least didnt break gravity or physics. There was NOTHING he did in LOTR that was this crazy.
Posted on 12/19/14 at 10:38 am to LeonPhelps
But hey, thats not why this movie is so awful. Fix all that other stuff and Legolas being a Jedi will hardly garner my attention.

Do you remember when they were on the way from Edoras to Helm's Deep and were ambushed by orcs? Legolas was standing on the hill shooting and then reached behind him with one hand and whipped himself around his horse that had come up behind him. That was as crazy as anything in this movie.

This is what I am referring to.

Yeah, thats not nearly as cray as the whole sequence with the falling rocks.
Not to mention Legolas has known where orcs were in this trilogy several times without ever having seen them or even looked their direction.

Elves are powerful mo-fo's. I don't question their ability.

Little disappointed with Sting, Glamdring and Orcrist. Orcs fricking everywhere and Sting only glowed once.
