Man, I've been binging this. I should be working on other stuff, but I think this is pretty fricking bad arse. Freaky shite.

My take as far as parents guide (4 eps in so take it FWIW)

*Possible slight spoilers*

Sex/Nudity

Some sexual language/innuendo peppered in, including 2 characters recreating sexual noises in a teasing manner. A female takes off her shirt and is shown in a bra. She and a male kiss on a bed but no more is shown. Other scenes show a male and female making out fully clothed.

Language

Some cursing throughout. No f-bombs that I can remember. Some of the cursing is said by young kids and teens.

Violence/Gore/Intense scenes

A man is seen being shot and later with a gunshot to his head clearly visible. One man is shown having his neck snapped (not overly gruesome). Some of the scenes in the show could be frightening and intense for some viewers.

Alcohol/drugs/smoking

Some adults as well as underage kids are shown drinking beers. Some characters are shown smoking and one asks for a pack of camels at the store.

Just finished episode 4 and this is great television. Plot, acting, soundtrack are all top notch. Goonies, poltergeist, TRON, and any 80s cliche genre are wrapped up in this one. Very enertaining and gripping so far. Don't wait on this one - just watch it!

So in other words you can actually have a good series without throwing in a ton of shock value scenes that do nothing for the story? Interesting. Will watch.

Just finished. Excellent series, enjoyed it start to finish.

I'm torn on season 2, though. On the one hand I don't think I'd mind seeing a continuation of this story line but on the other, I think this could be a platform akin to the Fargo series that occupies the same universe but focuses on a whole different set of characters with a different plotline, monster(s), etc. that could allude to the first season in ways (so not quite like True Detcetive season 2 which was totally separate from seson 1)

That girl has a total Christina Ricci look and vibe.

It's a good show, but everyone is sort of over-the-top weird looking and acting. I think it tries too hard to be retro-nerdy - I mean, did we all look that dorky in the 80's?

And Winona Ryder is the new Dick Clark.

They tried to make her as dowdy and old looking and she still doesn't come off as a real mom - comb her hair and put some makeup on and it's the same old Heathers look.

That woman is aging slowly.

Easily one the best series I've watched in a long time. The setup for next season was awesome.

Yes we did. Everytime i see old pics of me in the late 80's i cringe. Jams and rat tails

I think someone should just make another thread for those kind of questions.

The coolest thing about this show (now after binge watching 4 episodes) is that it isn't just 80's set-up and costumes, it feels like I'm watching an 80's show.

Like Tales from the Crypt - PG-style and how the show seems up-tight about sex from the cameras perspective.

They really went back in time for this show.

Just finished it and it was really damn good. I'm sad that it is over for another year until season two.

All of the actors did a great job, and the setting/music was perfect. I even liked the ending.

y 4 episodes in but in my opinion, it's like they took the Goonies and put them in a Doom game (the lab facility and the shite on the walls along with the creature thing that looks like an Imp from Doom)

Reminds me more of F.E.A.R.

I want the soundtrack.

Finished this tonight and damn was that awesome. One of the best series I have seen in a long time.

I know that final scene left it open for a second season but with this being called Stranger Things I think it could work really well like American Horror Story where each season stands on its own. They could use an entirely new cast if they wanted but wouldn't have to. I would love for them to stick with the 80s because that is clearly their wheelhouse.

I read an article where the creators were huge 80's fans despite really growing up in the 90's.

I don't know what was intentional and what wasn't....

But they talked about Stephen King...

And that struck home because the intro sort of looks and feels like The Stand.

The typeface is very 80's. Reminds me of Up All Night on USA.

Even the main girl character...named Nancy?

(Nightmare on Elm Street anyone?)

I think this series could have a lot of intentional connections and Easter eggs.
