Super 8 was great, but I didn't have much of a desire to watch it again. This series has a similar feel to it, as it's setting is in a similar time and revolves around child actors trying to solve a mystery of supernatural proportions, however, it is WAY better than Super 8.

I keep getting a Last Of Us feel with the monster and the spore looking stuff floating around in the upside down world.

Through episode three and it is so blatantly derivative of so many different things that it's actually pretty damn amazing that it still feels fresh and enjoyable. Really liking it so far.

There are some similarities but this is better.
Super 8 felt like a total homage but still with current film-making.
Stranger Things feels like an 80's show.
And more Tales from the Crypt or Tales from the Dark Side.
It's not E.T. and it's not Super 8...that's a modern monster movie that just creates an 80's setting and product placements...but it never for one moment felt like a real 80's film.
Stranger is different than Super 8.
Stranger is more IT or The Stand...while Super 8 is modern monster movie with Tab or Pepsi Free references.

I give it an 8 out of 10 ....
I watched it all in 2 days, might have something to do with it
really solid though ....

I finished the first two episodes and I'm hooked. This is so good. And the music...nothing like some synth porn music playing in the background at all times.
The only thing I don't like about the show is Winona Ryder. She's...I don't know, there's something I just don't like about her. And she looks like the wife from Everybody Loves Raymond in this show.

Just finished it, it was made with me, specifically, in mind. This was my childhood.

I never had a bike with a light on to ride around at night.

Yeah, really liked it. They managed to keep a relative level of tension through out most of the episodes. Very 80's nostalgic and if you grew up then it should be in your sweet spot.
Read something where the directors said they were influenced by the Silent Hill video games for the look and obviously Steven King for the tone and tempo.
I also really liked the use of scenes with no dialogue. They seemed to be constantly setting the tone of the series with visuals and music. Kinda reminded me of the movie Drive a bit.
Very cool but I hope they go a different way with season 2. They used each episode to slowly answer the mysteries about what was going on and that helped drive the success of the show. If the audience had the answers sooner then a lot of the addiction of the show fades. If they focus on the same group/story line then much of their hand has already been played when it comes to the mystery. That places much of season two in a different vein of show, less sci-fi and mystery and more monster horror.

My only concern is season 2 going off the rails, this could be left alone and be a good stand alone series, maybe it should have been a movie instead.
Season 2 will be hard to pull off, I just hope it doesn't turn into Under the Dome when the story was hard to continue.

Stranger Things was a surprise hit for me (as well as most others it looks like). I didn't like Wet Hot American Summer, just not my kind of humor I guess. But Stranger Things is neck and neck with Daredevil for me right now, with Bloodline right behind
