Thoughts on his tenure?

He was no Johnny, in my opinion. I gave him a try when Johnny retired but he didn't appeal to me and I stopped watching. I must admit that I never gave him another opportunity so if he has improved I haven't seen it.

Leno was consistent and safe, PR people in LA loved him because he used his show to further their client's agenda. Unfortunately this makes for very boring TV.

I despised the Jaywalking and stupid headlines bits, I despised the forced banter with Kevin Eubanks and Kafka nailed the rote 1,2,3...punchline of his jokes.

If I watch a talk show it is letterman but I dont enjoy it. Letterman isnt fun any more and his show format is incredibly stale as well. Letterman is 1973 Willie Mays playing for the Mets to me, someone we all love from the past but who should be retired.

I like Kimmel and Fallon but I find I enjoy their skits or musical bits on hulu or youtube the next day. I dont really like the show itself but that is more from disliking the Talk Show format in general. The only talk show I would be interested in watching is of one of the cable channels like HBO or Showtime had a nightly show with some comedian that allowed them to talk to guests like we talk IRL. Conan on HBO would be fantastic

And political. The worst thing you can be as a late show host. I haven't watched him in years and don't care to.

Leno gets some of the hate because his agent helped push Johnny out and in that first show, he never thanked or acknowledged Carson

Agreed. There will never be another like him. Kimmel is the closest in today's lineups. He had a way to let his guests be stars. None of the hosts do that today, except maybe Kimmel. The rest want to talk over them, or make themselves the center of attention the entire show. Especially Fallon. It's irritating.

overall i think he paled in comparison to carson. he's ok i guess. i definitely don't hate him. but wouldn't say i loved him either.

i like the fact that he loves comedians and tries whenever he can to get them over or act as a resource. comics seem to respect him so i like that.

I still don't understand why people get so upset about what "Leno did to Conan"

LINK

Bill Maher nailed it

he did skits for Jay for the run up to the bush clinton elections which led to politically incorrect on comedy central

Jay Leno's Farewell Who the hell stays up that late every night to watch this? Do people not have jobs to get up for in the morning? I always assumed the only people watching late night shows are old people that don't have kids in their house anymore. If you aren't asleep b/c you have a job the next morning, i would think you could find something better to do than watch a late night show of crap, Leno, Letterman, Fallon, Conan, etc., like studying, watching anything else, having sex, looking for someone to have sex, getting drunk, etc.

Wtf. Not everyone is a pussy and in bed by 9

Me and my dad use to stay up and watch Leno all time back in the day. I watch Conan every now and then
