I thought it was a great finale. Well done and appropriate. I've always liked Jay. He may not have always made me laugh and some of his stuff may not have always appeared 'fresh', though I did laugh plenty), but he never did or said anything that turned me off. I think he's a class act and will miss him. I actually got a little misty eyed when he said his final goodbye. Call me what you want.

Never thought Leno was a good host, really. Incredibly stale monologues, even when trying to be topical, and not a good interviewer.

I liked Leno when I was a kid. Then I grew up and realized what a hack he is. Conan was always better. Fallon is better and will do a better job. I'm interested to see how Seth Meyers does with Late Night.

It's not that I think Bill Hicks himself isn't funny. Frankly, I haven't heard nearly enough of his stand up to form that opinion. The linked bit about Jay Leno was just boring. It wasn't a joke. It was a rant. And it didn't even have a funny bent to it. It was just him hating Jay Leno; which is fine, I get it. I'm not a fan of Jay Leno either, but I'm not standing on a stage getting paid to try to make people laugh.
There are plenty of comedians out there who have a lot of hate in their heart and let it out in a funny way--Bill Burr immediately springs to mind--but the linked bit by Hicks did nothing for me other than tell me that he needed to check his butthurt.
ETA: See also - Dennis Leary, Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Sam Kennison, etc.
