He's almost a parody of hacky comedians
My problem with Leno -- aside from shitty interviews -- is he tells one type of joke:
"[Celebrity] is back in the news. You remember [Celebrity], he was the guy who [refers to old news story]. Now he's trying to [current news story]. That mean he's going to [punchline]!!"
FWIW, people interested in cars and motorcycles should check out the Jay Leno channel on YouTube. It's actually pretty awesome.

Kimmel will be the only decent host left now. Leno was better than conan, fallon and everyone is better than letterman. Ferguson isnt bad.

Remember Jays primetime show? I guess NBC thought what the hell it's cheap to make but then is started to drag down the ratings for the news.

Honestly, yeah. Kimmel seems to be the one with the most creativity, is the only one who does any fun things with celebrities, and will call his interviewees out on their bullshite. It's amazing how low Kimmel started on late night, and how far he's risen.

Meh. Craig Ferguson is the best guy on TV.

he seemed spontaneous before he got the Tonight Show but lost that with time. where he was truly special was the special blend of generally not listening to his guests during interviews and asking idiotic follow-up questions when he did.

Leno was the king of the standups in the 80's. He was sarcastic, cynical, and hilarious. A shame that he watered himself down to make himself palatable to the Tonight Show audience.

I said farewell to him 20 years ago. Was always a Lettetman person and never got the people who liked Jay. I am sure he will find someway to hang around and be on tv. He's not Carson walking away on his terms IMO.

From what I recall of The Late Shift so was Carson. I think it had as much to do with DL calling out the network brass as much as his non middle America humor.

It wasn't Leno's fault "Team Coco" didn't watch the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien forcing NBC to bring Jay back.
Coincidently, Conan's ratings started dropping when he had to follow that disaster known as The Jay Leno Show and it's shitty ratings

That's not really saying much though.

Jay Leno is one of those things that is so terrible...if I know someone likes him....I can't be friends with them.
I would not go that far but if I know someone likes Leno, I dismiss their opinion on all things pop culture.

I have watched maybe 5 episodes of Jay Leno in the last 6-7 years, so I don't really care what happens to the show, but there is a lot of bad info here.
First, Jay never retired the first time. NBC told him he was retiring so Conan wouldn't leave for another network. Then when the time came for Leno to leave he was still #1 and NBC was afraid he would go to another network, so they gave him the primetime show.
As said earlier, they KNEW the Jay Leno show would have low ratings compared to the other networks, but they were banking on also saving a ton of money compared to having to produce 5+ different shows for those five hours every week.
The problem was the ratings were killing local news casts and several NBC affeliates were threatning to drop Leno's show. NBC still had a contract with both Jay and Conan, so they were going to move the shows, but Conan refused, arguing his show wouldn't really be the tonight show unless it started at 11:35 eastern.
So the real question is why did NBC force Jay out in the first place. Did Conan tell them he was leaving unless given the Tonight Show? If so, he got what he deserved. If he didn't make the demand, NBC is the one that really screwed up.
Conan received $33 million from NBC to leave. Where do I sign up for that kind of job?
