I have zero desire to go to a movie theatre that serves meals. And not because this is the 1,000th horror story I've heard about these places. I want to watch a movie, not have shrimp fried rice and see a few frames between bites. I can eat before or after my movie. Eating while watching just doesn't strike me as a theatre experience I want to have.

I always find it funny how this topic provokes such strong responses. Absent some horrific experience like to OP, are y'all envisioning a TGI Fridays that has a movie screen in it?

I've been to our local dine-in theater several times and have had pretty good experiences.

No, it's really not.

My theater doesn't even have projectionist. Just giant automated projectors that are in the theater with you like a large living room projector.

It sounds like Movie Tavern is just a very poor version of a dine-in movie theater concept. The places I have been in NYC and ATL have all been exceptional.

Cinebistro in ATL stops all orders right as previews start and all food will be delivered by the end of previews / start of the movie. The only way to get anything at that point is to exit and walk up to the concessions area. Thus all these complaints about waiters interrupting you are not an issue.

Do you work at a theater? I'd be curious to hear about their processes if this is the case. However, I don't think you do.

Because you just described every projector in the business, even those that still run on tape instead of digital copies. They are turned on and left to run for each showing.

There is never a projectionist standing by the machines in every single room. They sit at a desk on their phone, occasionally looking at numbers on a screen to check on things.

Most projectors gets at least a minor glance-over inbetween showings though. Though if one is dialed in they dont, just peruse the numbers on it to see if it's a tick hot, if the lumens is wavering...etc.

Kids and I saw Tomorrowland at a theater like this in Bar Harbor, ME while on vacation last summer. It was a pleasant experience. We placed our orders before the movie. The fountain drink machine was in the back of the theater. The pizza was delicious.

I could see being a pain in the arse if it was like the regular restaurant experience while watching a movie.

what I'm saying is no projector room whatso ever, the projectors are above the back two rows, there is no window for a person to look in and watch.

I have now seen Star Wars in 27 of the 33 cinemas in the Arklatex.

None were satisfactory.

I actually do not see how anybody could ever perceive going to a Movie Tavern would be a good ideal

I went last Wednesday, after my experience I don't see any reason to go to an AMC theater. Only complaint I have was it took a while to get our drinks, food came quick enough, food was good, waiter was giving back our cards as the credits rolled. Passing out the food didn't bother me a bit. Enjoyed it enough that I'm going back tonight.

Do you mean that particular chain specifically, or a dine-in theater in general?

I've never been to a place like this but it sounds like it would not be for me at all. Service sounds terrible and I'd imagine there would be tons of distractions.

The OP had a bad experience. It would be a mistake to assume that this is the norm.

Again, are y'all imagining a TGI Fridays with a movie screen, because the ones I've been to are not like this at all. Wait staff is not continuously walking up and down aisles carrying food and dishes.

That is when you just walk out. Which Movie Tavern?

I really enjoy Alamo. I do not really do meals there. But having better snacks like real appetizers and BEER during a movie is great.

As mentioned before, expect no better than Chilis caliber food and you will be fine. Order finger foods or pizza. Anything more than pizza is just foolish and a distraction. But as far as staff walking around? Alamo has it handled. They spacing of seats with the slope are perfect. I've NEVER had a server bother my viewing experience. And anyone else chime in, but I feel Alamo is louder than most theaters on purpose to make the server and customer talking a non issue.

I've no experience with Movie Tavern.

I can definitely see it being an issue though with a full theater and 2-3 people taking all those orders. My first ticket today had 6-7 things on it including water, food, and beers. Order it all on first trip. Then if you want 2nd beer or possible third you add those.

I enjoyed the hell out of Alamo when I was a Katrina refugee in Houston.

It helped that the theater was borderline empty when I went. Fast drinks and food. Loved it.

I can't imagine how crappy it would be on opening week for a mega blockbuster. The food prep and wait staff can't handle that kind of crowd.

Must be a nightmare to work that crowd in the dark.

My waiter was at least 6'2". Shouldn't they cap these hires at about 5'8"? His constant ducking/hunching to try and not block my view was just as distracting as if my view were blocked.

Movie Tavern sounds pretty shite compared to Alamo Draft House then. There are no phone lights for bills or talking allowed in those.

Yeah I love Alamo. The service is good, the food is fine, and there is no issue with noisy dishes or waiters. Same with Studio Movie Grill in Houston.
