Dune: Part 2 ends with an opportunity for part 3 to be made. Not confirmed it being made though.

Denis outdid himself in every way.
I was worried how he was going to handle Alia, but choosing to keep the span of the film short enough to keep her in the womb was brilliant. The conversations with her were weird, but it would have been much worse if we had to see her deal the death blow to the Baron.
Choosing not to explore Thufir’s suspicions of Jessica cost him a spot in Part 2. It was his plot in the books to not drug one of the Atreides prisoners that fought Feyd. Speaking of, Austin Butler is no longer Elvis. What a transformation, especially watching him in Masters of Air lately.
I don’t care how short it was, Josh Brolin - Best Original Song as the 2025 Oscars.

Did a rewatch last night of Dune 1 on Netflix totally psyched for Dune 2.

It was good. I had a couple issues, but I enjoyed it.
Question: Is the original novel meant to be a completed story with the sequels coming after the success of the original book, or was it always intended as past one of a series?

Just got out. Lived up to the hype. That ending battle, holy shite. Austin butler crushes Feyd Rautha. Walken was a bit distracting doing his “walken” voice but was still good.
You’re absolutely doing yourself a disservice not seeing these in theatre. I re watched the 1st one last night on the couch for the first time since I saw it in theatre and while still good it definitely wasn’t the same. My chair shook anytime a worm showed up. These are the movies we go to the big screen for

He initially planned a trilogy but it expanded to six books.

Started off kinda slow, but man it picked up halfway through. That last 30 mins was the best cinematography I’ve ever seen in film. “Epic” gets over used, but that’s exactly what it was.
No one moved at the end because I think everyone was still like “holy shite” that was good.

Brilliant?
I enjoyed the movie but why leave out alia and thufir for the end confrontation with the emperor? It was Alia that the reverend mother calls “abomination”, not paul. Paul is what they were trying to create.
They could’ve cut out 30 minutes of the water of life stuff and introduced these themes.
Also, no spacing guild presence in the final scene? They were the ones who advised the emperor paul was not bluffing about the nukes, because they could see the future in which paul actually does it.
In the book, It is paul’s mentat abilities along with prescience that assists him with calculating his plan to take the throne. His ability surpasses jessica, and she fears him. She does not fear him in the movie.
Lastly, Chani and Paul has a child at this point, Leto. He was killed around the time of the battle… sort of a major thing to leave out. She wasnt just his GF. Not to mention she was Kynes’s daughter, also left out.

Extremely long. Great movie, but long.
And Chani sucks, totally made her different than in the book. They just had to give her the girl-boss treatment. Stupid, but I can look past it.

One of the best movies ever made.

Just got home.
Really really liked it. Did not love it.
Obviously cinematography was phenomenal. Score as well.
Chalmette grew on me. Zendaya did not. HATE the "rushed" timeline thing they did where Alia is a fetus and Paul's son isn't born yet. I "sort of" get why he did it that way, but you could have just aged up alia, or had a toddler stand there where we only heard her thoughts.
Never thought I'd have to say it but the worms weren't used enough. Those should have been easy fan service. The size and scale should have been much more relevant.
One question. Why did it end with Chani rested bitch face?

Beautiful movie but something was off about the editing. It was like whole scenes were missing

If I had to guess, Denis thought Alia was too weird for general audiences. It works in the book but it felt comedic in the Lynch movie. I think there would have been a lot of unwelcome laughs if an articulate toddler walked up to kill the Baron.
As for Thufir, they just didn’t set up enough in Part 1 to include him. Suspecting Jessica was the traitor wouldn’t make sense in the movies. The Mentats in general deserved more recognition of their abilities outside of calculations.
I agree with the spacing guild. That was a cool costume design for the brief scene in Part 1 and I’m surprised he didn’t include them as part of the Emperor’s court. He didn’t have to go full worm.

I don’t think it’s that major. Leto is so irrelevant that Paul names his next son Leto too. With the shortened timeline it wouldn’t be possible for Chani to have a son either.
