The Geidi Prime black sun scene was also insane.
I wish we would have had more of it.

Stunning scene, the best part of the movie.
It felt like you were right there on the worm.
I took a piss before the movie and the bathroom was SHAKING at another theater going. I was curious at the time what was going on.

How Armond White still has a job is amazing
I guess I wasn’t super familiar with him but his wiki entry is hilarious.
quote:
As an African-American, gay, conservative film critic, he has been called a "minority three times over in his profession
quote:
White has provided extensive commentary on gay cinema, favorably reviewing I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, God's Own Country, and Summer of 85, while unfavorably reviewing Brokeback Mountain and Bros
quote:
White often analyzes and discusses race in cinema, having unfavorably reviewed Black films such as Precious, 12 Years a Slave, Get Out,[40] Nope, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Devotion. He has praised films such as Night of the Living Dead and Hi, Mom! for their depictions of racism,[41] has cited Cyborg in Zack Snyder's Justice League as a positive example of a black superhero, and Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as a poor one
quote:
White is generally critical of superhero movies, unfavorably reviewing The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, Avengers: Endgame, and The Batman, while calling Marvel Cinematic Universe films "formulaic".[43][44] He has praised Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,[45] Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder's Justice League; writing that Snyder "rescued comic-book movies from nihilism and juvenilia, making modern myths worthy of adult spirituality and politics
That is a lot to unpack.

Great effects and cinematography, but there’s no actual story to these movies. It’s a bunch of eluded to vagueness.

No story? Lol, family is forced to take control of a planet. ALL are killed by enemies except the son. The journey of justice and revenge for his father and house forces him to reluctantly accept the role as messiah to natives. Ultimaly he prevails and restores the honor of his house.
Not very hard to figure out.

1 was way better than the sequel (edit) People that love transformers or marvels will love it. The first Dune was really good.
You and others like you are pure clowns. What’s wrong with liking transformers or marvel films? And what does this film have to do with them? Take your fake superiority attitude out the door.

As a rabid defender of all things Dune related you have to admit that, through no fault of the filmmaker, the story is deluded and vague in alot of areas. Again Villeneuve and the performances are outstanding but the studio wasn’t in position to green light the full story right away and cost us a lot of important world building aspects of the story which decreased the weight of what’s happening. For example, the Sardaukar aren’t as formidable as they should be because of time constraints. The Harkonnens are one dimensional for the same reason. The emperor, Thufir, Duncan and a lot of other things as well. This should’ve been a Harry Potter length franchise but because of previous failures the setup had to be cut down to assure a return so we could get to the second movie. All these cuts takes away from the gravity and payoff in the story. You don’t have any pity for Paul’s enemies like in the books. You don’t understand how big of a feat it is to defeat the Sardaukar. You don’t feel the political pressure from the Guild. Those things take Dune from great to unquestioned greatest. I think this franchise will get better as it ages and the success of 2 could create an opportunity to flesh out the entire Dune universe.

Very good movie, not quite as good as part 1. To me it seemed they deviated from the book quite a bit in the second one- didn’t really show training the Fremen in the weirding way, downplayed Paul’s supernatural abilities. Sister not killing the Barron.

I know it's not possible, but the first book should have been a trilogy. There was a lot rushed at the end of this one and the pacing suffered.
I 100% agree with this. The film is absolutely brilliant but the ending, though a visual marvel, is a bit anticlimactic. Also, as someone who has not read Dune, I missed a few things because of how rushed they were. I went back after the film and read the plot of Dune and noticed I missed some things that were there in the film, but just hard to grasp because of how much had to be packed in.
All that said, it was so good. Denis Villeneuve is on my list of directors that if they make a film, I go see it, no questions asked. However, I hope after this he gets away from the sci-fi genre for a bit. He is capable of making great films in other genres. I wouldn’t want to miss out on the next Sicario because DV got pigeonholed in genre films.

When does the Cliff's Note version release?
I can't commit to a half-day for a movie.

The audience got a good chuckle out of that Life of Brian moment. I mean, that logic is infallible!

quote:”One of the most painful choices for me on this one was Thufir Hawat," Villeneuve admits. "He's a character I absolutely love, but I decided right at the beginning that I was making a Bene Gesserit adaptation. That meant that Mentats are not as present as they should be, but it's the nature of the adaptation."
I think this is something i’ll never understand. The mentats are so central to the story and not hard for audiences to comprehend. Mentats offer a balance to the bene geserit, and thufir is on of the readers fav characters.
