It's a chick flick, but the one liners throughout the movie are great, especially from Shirley McClane (spl). Her character makes the movie.

Absolutely. There are some movies you can get away with liking, but Steel Magnolias should really only appeal to women.

Why? Because you like a quality movie?

Of course not.

I love steel magnolias, Sally Field has always reminded me of my mother in that movie.

Hell, I say never be ashamed of liking anything. Be yourself. Life's too short to worry about what other people think.

No, most guys enjoy a chick movie or TV show. Some are just afraid to admit it. I love old episodes of Designing Women.

No, but you'll have to turn in your Southerner Card.

Those accents were ridiculous and all over the place.

It's alright. They filmed it around here and some of my friends and their family members were in it. The dad of one of my best friends is prominently featured in one of the scenes. He's no longer with us, so it's nice that he's immortalized on the screen.

"Steel Magnolias" is just fine. Yeah, it's a chick flick, but it's also a Southern flick. Can't get enough of those. And it's an ensemble piece, not a romantic comedy.

Except kiddie porn. You should be ashamed of that. Life is not too short to worry about what others think of you if you like kiddie porn.

I was picking up a buddy of mine in college for class one afternoon. One of the tougher guys I knew. When I walked in he was in his recliner in tears watching Steele Magnolias the part when the baby was crying on the front porch when Shelby had died. Looked up at me and said "when that baby cries it gets me every time"

It's a helluva movie. I can't count the number of times I've seen it. My Mom took me up to Natchitoches to watch some of the filming which was a lot of fun, though it was August and hotter than blue blazes. We rode around and looked at the other places where parts were filmed. I remember standing near some bushes with glued on flowers because it supposed to be Easter. There were magnolias glued in magnolia trees and fake azalea bushes in the back yard where the reception scene was.

Great moment in the movie. Dramatic and funny.
