re: Did Jon Hamm miss his wave?

I don't think he's an objectively good or great actor.
He was perfect for Draper, though. And he missed the "paying his dues" phase - he was trying to break into acting. But, when his peers (mid-20s) were stretching into HS and college roles, he looked like a grown arse man in his mid-30s - that "premature" maturity paid off for him in Mad Men.
I think he's doing okay with the residuals from that and just trying to keep busy. He would kill as the live action Archer, although Benjamin would probably have to do the voice over.

Near impossible to do. He is a star. He had his lead role in a GOAT TV drama. I'd be curious if anybody goes on to "bigger" things. Thats what we are talking about.
To expect Hamm to go on and be Tom Hanks or Deniro after this would be unprecedented. Bosom Buddies was NOT great.
Julia Louis Dreyfus is the GOAT for continued success IMO. Went from a GOAT comedy, to continued Emmy's with Veep? But her career arc is basically a unicorn.

Wow. How did I miss Trumbo?

Yeah you just can't get away from Don Draper
To be fair, Cranston has gotten some big roles, and I'd say Walter White is a lot bigger than Don Draper.

Seinfeld ended in 1998, and VEEP didn't start until 2012, took her 14 years to get near that level of success again. Good thing she comes from a family of billionaires.

Dude. She had five Emmy nominations and one win during those 14 years. She only won one Emmy for Seinfeld. It's not like she languished in the wilderness between gigs.

One odd thing about Hammy I've noticed is chicks ruining their panties when watching Mad Men, yet hardly seem to notice him when they see him in other things. I'm not sure I've ever seen that dynamic before.
It's because deep down women want a guy like Don Draper, warts and all.
They don't want Jon Hamm...who by the way, never seems all that cool in other roles. Like Brad Pitt and George Clooney were still kinda cool in different roles.
Hamm comes off sort of goofy in other roles. It's really strange.
He's like the two-face girlfriend in Seinfeld. In Mad Men he looks like a mega-star; in other roles he looks like a guy just happy to be there.

He was in Keeping up with the Joneses. Hilarious movie. Jon Hamm is a comedian. He killed it in Mad Men, but I think he prefers to do funny roles.

I really enjoyed that movie.

Reminds me of the Mike Rowe podcast story. The Way I Heard It, if y'all haven't checked it out. It was early on in the podcast, episode 8.

Yea that guy completely forgot about New Adventures of Old Christine. Kills his argument.

He was nominated for Trumbo and All The Way, but for the most part he's done shite like Why Him? and Godzilla and Power Rangers.

I wouldn't. I loved both shows, it's a push.

Bryan Cranston as Walter White won 4/6 Emmys. White is the bigger role between the two. We're not talking personal preference here.

Apples and oranges. Mad Men was an ensemble cast with Don as the lead. BB is a study of a man and an ensemble assembled around him.
The Emmy thing was ridiculous. No way Hamm should have only got one.
If we are counting lines, then yes Walter was bigger.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The guy was perfect as Don and has leading man good looks, but it seems like he's at his happiest when he's playing a guest star in a random sitcom. From Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp to appearing in black face on 30 Rock; it's clear he just enjoys getting to be goofy.

I bet hes just having fun and enjoying life.
This. He's seemingly in St. Louis at Cardinals games as often as Bill Murray is at Chicago sporting events.

And I doubt that Seinfeld paid her with Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons.

She was one of the richest people in the business before Seinfeld.
Her father was a multi-billionaire.

I hadn't heard it, but I just listened to it - yeah that's pretty much the story as I understand it.
More cool trivia- Don Draper and Nina Myers went to HS prom together.
