Very rarely do you escape from a role that ended up defining you as an actor. Type casting is a thing in Hollywood and it may cost you an arm and a leg to escape it. It took Leonardo DiCaprio five years to escape the shadow that Titanic cast on his career. Others like Mark Hamill never truly escaped it.

Are you saying that he isnt even attempting to get big roles?

I have no idea, but if i were in his shoes, i wouldnt feel the need to work my arse off or play the game to snag big roles.

I really really wanted him to be Jor-El.

He looks the part as Superman's Kryptonian father.

He could be good in a war movie. He has that look.

I could see him as a military officer. He could do more cop/FBI/Detective stuff like The Town. I think he could be great as a politician in a movie or another TV show.

He would be very believable as a wealthy criminal type. Not saying an outright gangster, but something like the Paul Newman's Henry Gondorff character in The Sting. Some of the other roles Newman played like Eddie Felson in Color of Money. He's old enough that he's going to have to be the mentor in anything with action. He might be great in a good story like Newman's Gallagher in Absence of Malice too.

I think he could do a lot of the roles Robert Redford did in the 80's and later. Brubaker, Out of Africa, Indecent Proposal, The Last Castle, even Spy Game.

I'd like to see him in something smaller like the Netflix movie Small Crimes with Nikolaj Coster-Waladu. It seems like an interesting dark comedy and I think Hamm could do that.

He's not only type cast, I don't get the impression he gives a frick. He's just having a good time now.

Also, he's fantastic in A Young Doctor's Notebook.

When you're so closely identified with one role, it might be tough to do a lot besides voice work

Worked for Clooney and he started off with a big fat stinker in Batman & Robin.

Cranston has been doing pretty well too after breaking bad

For his age and playing such an iconic role, he has gotten more work than one would expect. Two of the roles got him an Oscar nom and an Emmy nom

Not saying he's been pumping out hit movies or anything

He's too busy bathing in that sweet voice over money from Mercedes.

Jon Hamm had to wait until very late in his career to achieve any sort of notoriety. Don Draper WAS "his wave," and I promise you he didn't miss it.

If True Detective season 3 gets going, I'd like to see him in a very dark cop role.

One odd thing about Hammy I've noticed is chicks ruining their panties when watching Mad Men, yet hardly seem to notice him when they see him in other things. I'm not sure I've ever seen that dynamic before.

Checkout the episode he was in in Black Mirror. He did a fantastic job and it was probably the best Black Mirror episode I've seen.

shite, I wanted him to be Superman. He looks like how Alex Ross and Curt Swan drew the character. But WB wasn't about to cast a 40 year old man for a decade's worth of movies.

He's one intense role from making Don Draper disappear. Mad Men was popular but it's not like Don Draper was Tony Soprano or Walter White. Like others have said he's probably just taking it easy and having fun

Agreed. The ending is the most disturbing movie ending I've ever seen.

Nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, won a Tony.

Not bad for someone who was an ensemble or character actor prior to Breaking Bad.

If you ever want to feel depressed & disturbed as frick, just binge watch some Black Mirror. It had what, one "happy ending" to an episode out of three seasons?
