If Serkis is in it, that's fine with me. I think it'll be risky to not have Caesar. Maybe they can have him in some flashbacks. He's been such a great character.

They can do as they did with McDowell, just have Serkis play his son or someone further down the family tree.

Humans will not forgive as a whole. He's absolutely right. Koba created too much damage. Caesar is going to have to give in a little bit or the apes will never follow him.

The only faults are that we need a little more of the human side, just a tad. Or at least more of the interaction with the apes when things were better.

I think the creative counterargument to this is that we have seen the human side in many other movies that are set in a post-apocalyptic world.

So they can make more waves by focusing on what makes this movie different: the apes.

I found it very hard to believe that a group was coming south to help them in the movie.

I found it hard to believe apes were speaking and riding horses.

I think Koba is driven to pure evil.

i mean i guess, but that shift was jumping the shark...like i said, to move the story along (same with the idiot human)

that jarring character shift really did hurt the last third of the movie, but it is what it is...a summer movie

i think people are accepting of it just b/c we've been so accustomed to that meme in movies.

No Koba was pure evil that was easy to see when he threw Ash over the ledge

they attempted a shift in personality that takes years, because that's what we're used to as an audience

The only roadblock is that we don't really know if there are other colonies of intelligent apes.

i doubt that's possible. it's very localized

They may have gone overboard with him killing other apes but I was accepting of it. It's not like Koba was the most peaceful ape in the first movie

They do appear to be breeding very quickly and increasing their numbers.

Not surprising as they are a minority in a liberal state.

he literally went from being 100% "all in" with the ape collective to not trusting of humans to psychopathic authoritarian dictator, killing motherfricking apes left and right, in like 72 hours. that's a bit of a personality shift

what was "the right time"? and letting a grizzly bear kill caesar (and his son, for good measure) would have been a lot better all around

there was no human threat at that point.

so he was waiting on what was thought to be an extinct species to re-emerge in order to take control of the ape collective?

Well, both sides thought neither existed...

Koba was never right in the head, even from Rise.

Yeah, just watched it, and it was pretty damn great. Would not put it as one of the greatest cinematic experiences of my life, but it was solid and elevated the material to a point that I would have never expected it. Honestly, the moment Koba shot Ceasar, I expected the clique Ceasar surviving and Koba would be dead within 20 minutes after revealing that he tried to kill him, but they never went the clique route. It was great, and Koba was a great antagonist. Highly recommend it.
