i'm not saying he was "black/white"

but to go fricking psycho basically overnight, it makes no sense with what we were provided. we're unwinding that point

nobody said he was a flat character

i'm saying that we weren't given any data that would lead us to think he was seeking power. and being obsessed with being the leader is the only justification i can think of that would lead to such a dramatic shift in personality on screen

No, he was that in the first place. The thing that set off his psychotic tendencies wasn't present for the past 10 years of his life. The psychotic dictator was always present, he just had no reason to implement it until then.

that simply doesn't happen. that kind of transition takes a long time (the absolute power corrupts absolutely meme). but, in order to create an artificial conflict to "raise the stakes" of the ending, they forced it in

I guarantee if you got a bunch of Jewish holocaust survivors together in a commune for about 10 years, and then dropped a few hundred Nazis about 25 miles away from them, that kind of guy would probably quickly emerge if their current leader saw them as rational people instead of monsters who previously subjugated them to torture and death.

He was that way in the first film though.

becoming psycho mass murderer is another thing

Yet again, he was clearly there in the first film.

where in "hatred of humans" is it required to jail apes and throw others off a ledge?

If someone doesn't share his views, then they need to be eliminated. Pretty straight forward.

You're probably right, but I felt like he had that underneath him the whole time. That would be the only reason he went as far as he did. The fact that we are even having this conversation about an ape movie means they were successful in creating great characters. I would have never expected that from a planet of the apes movie.

i don't give it that much credit. just b/c you write bad characters and people disagree doesn't mean it was good writing

and i just remembered that caesar was possibly more violent towards humans in the first movie compared to zoba, so, there goes that argument

No, I'm saying the other way around. I'm saying the Jew would blindly kill and enslave the Nazis and kill anyone (including any Jew) that would stand in his way.

Yea, he was when they attacked his family. And yes, a lot of people disagree with you.

He had no reason to implement that before the humans arrived though. I don't think anything Ceasar did before that pissed him off.

Also attempting to murder James Franco. It's pretty clearly established that he's the one ape you don't frick around with, and was very clearly intended to be the main villain of the second film.

It's like he can't see that guns and war can change people.

He didn't change though. He has been the same throughout, and when he knew Ceasar wouldn't go along with him, he eliminated him and anyone else who would stand in his way. I think his motives are very well established even in the first film.
