this is inexcusable.

Quite possibly the best performer that show has ever had.

I will go with the All Time best SNL Team type of Cast. Lots of impressions, great acting and singing talent. Pieces fit together, great supporting actor types.

Can't have too many BIG personalities and stars. Murphy would be the star but everyone else can hold their own and play great supporting roles. Ferrell and murphy together would be incredible

Ferrell
Hader
Hooks
Hartman
Rudolph
Carvey
Wiig
Murphy
C. Guest
Armisen

Writer: Smigel
Weekend: Miller

I feel like you could do just about anything with this cast. Black female was tough, Rudolph was by far the best. I could see dumping Armisen for Kate McKinnon. To go 6-4 M/F

picking Murphy for black male is risky but you have to have a star IMHO. Easily put Tracy Morgan here but he might be too disruptive

Drop murphy and add Murray for star power but then Armisen has to play all the black male characters and that wouldn't work very well unless you add Morgan

C. Guest was only on one year but he could play all the handsome guy roles as well as understated characters. Great glue guy

Almost an impossible task.

Dan Aykroyd
Dana Carvey
John Belushi
Chris Farley
Will Ferrell
Phil Hartman
Jan Hooks
Eddie Murphy
Mike Myers
Amy Poehler
Andy Samberg
Kristen Wiig

John Belushi
Dan Aykroyd
Eddie Murrphy
Laraine Newman
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman
Mike Myers
Will Ferrell
Amy Poehler
Tracy Morgan
Kristen Wiig
Bill Hader

Weekend Host: Norm MacDonald
Head Writer: Tina Fey
Host: Tom Hanks
Musical Guest: Paul Simon

I only have 3 women in the cast, including the sorely underrated Newman who could do just about anything, and disdained recurring characters. She's the best supporting player in SNL history not named Phil Hartman. I guess Myers and Carvey are a bit redundant, and you could cut one of the impressionists to add Jan Hooks or Maya Rudolph, but... nah.

John Belushi
Chris Farley
Bill Murray
Will Ferrell
Eddie Murphy
Dan Aykroyd
Phil Hartman
Mike Meyers
Andy Samberg
David Spade
Chris Kattan
Darrell Hammond - Need Sean Connery!!

Weekend Update: Norm MacDonald

David Spade when paired with Chris Farley is almost guaranteed magic.

Chris Kattan and Darrell Hammond are incredibly underrated members that made many great sketches as supporting players.

Every basketball team needs a good bench.

Clearly not Kattan, since he's one of the worst members in SNL history. Love how he and Norm had a huge feud going though: LINK

Edit: you ended up going with Chris Kattan over Dana Carvey?

I have seen Waynes World one too many times and after Love Guru I am still trying to forgive Mike Myers...If you have Dana on the show it would probably lead to more segments with both.

Chris will do anything on film and I have no ladies.

Dana brought way more than Wayne's World to the table:

Church Lady
George Bush
Ross Perot
Massive Headwound Harry
Hans and Franz
Grumpy Old Man

All Kattan did was really jump around and spit. Carvey could impersonate anyone and was an incredibly valuable member of the cast. The Church Lady alone was better than all of Kattan's skits combined.

that is a great list although i'd probably sub out fey to the bench for writers. she and smigel and jim downey are three of the best writers of all time.

of course SNL had a shite load of writers who've gone on to such bigger things or would have been great cast members themselves.

i mean i'd watch odenkirk or conan or mulaney or larry david as a cast member.

also sub in wiig for rudolph. daryl hammond for morgan.

i love norm way more than dennis miller now but i'd probably go with miller edging out macdonald for the WU spot.

John Belushi
Bill Murray
Eddie Murphy
Will Ferrell
Cheri Oteri
Kristen Wiig (but she would NOT be allowed to do the Gilley character)
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman (IMHO, the best-ever cast member)
Dan Aykroyd
Andy Samberg
Mike Meyers
Chris Farley

Weekend Update: Norm MacDonald (the best WU ever- sarcastic, mean, AND didnt give a shite- PERFECT for SNL fake news)

It was very difficult to leave Gilda Radner off this list, and she would be the next one on it.

I know some might call this sexist but to me it's just a matter of preference in comedy taste, but I just don't think women are usually that funny. 2 of the most popular female cast members--Wiig and Oteri--both annoyed the shite out of me every time they were on. I understand Oteri was valuable for her versatility and that they, along with the others, had some memorable sketches. But just not enough to justify leaving some of the males out. So even though she wasn't as versatile as the others on screen, I put Fey in for a combination of her ability to play the quirky girl plus her being pretty enough to play a believable sexy girl and the huge plus that she brought to the table as a writer.

You know it's crazy--I actually struggled with that one and had Hammond in there and put in Morgan right before I submitted. For some reason, that old sketch where he spanks Shaq sticks out in my mind.: LINK

On the flip side, I don't know how I'd have an All Star SNL with no Sean Connery.
