How did Guthridge almost wreck the program? He coached there 3 seasons, had 2 final fours and an 80-28 record

Yeah, I don't think the program was in trouble until Doherty took over.

Guthridge's last team made the Final Four but they struggled to make the tournament. Nobody was happy with him and everybody was just waiting for that last season to end quickly so he would retire and they could crown Doherty. And then they upset the 1 in the second round, and the 2 and 3s were upset too that weekend. That region was the 4, 6, 7 and UNC at 8 in the Sweet Sixteen, so they completed the run. His second Final Four was a miracle.

Yeah they almost wrecked unc's program. They left it in such terrible shape that Roy won a title with the players Doherty left for him.
But yeah I mean Doherty was gonna frick everything up even worse. Just saying he didn't leave the cupboard bare

Bennett laid the foundation at Wisconsin for Ryan. He doesn't belong on the list at all.
Crean doesn't belong on the list either. He catches alot of flack, but he is a solid coach.
Guthridge is an interesting discussion. He was only at Carolina a few years, and inherited some insane talent, and should have won a title with Vince and Jamison. That team might have been the best starting 5 in college I've ever seen, but I think they only went 6 deep and maybe that's why they didn't win a title.

Look up the Indiana State guy
The guy who rode the legendary Carl Nix to the tournament the year after Bird left?

Bob Huggins
Ol' Huggy Bear has taken two different schools, Cincy in '92 and WVU in '10, to the Final Four. Not bad.

Why is John Brady on the list? He took LSU and their DRACONIAN SANCTIONS to the Final Four.

Richard Williams, Clem Haskins, Paul Hewitt, John Brady, and Mike Davis.
In some order this should be a consensus top (bottom) 5.

Roy Danforth
By a wide margin.
By a wide margin.

For his career he was 31 games over .500.
That includes the Bird year, when he was 32 games over .500.

Bob Huggins has over 700 wins

Brady was in over his head when LSU faced UCLA that night.
From a coaching standpoint that it. It also seemed like Arron Afflalo couldn't miss anything.

Bobby Cremins doesn't belong anywhere near your list. 11 straight years in the postseason, 13 straight winning seasons, and won 61 percent of his games while playing in the toughest conference.
