So what do the players do there for the whole week when they come for the bowl?

Hit up Sammy's and the Furnace, eat at Dreamland, go hang out in the Lakeview district, where all the college and recent grads go barhopping, go to Hoover to the mall, visit Children's hospital and visit cancer patients.

This.

Going to the Humanitarian Bowl or whatever the frick it's called this year to freeze your arse off in exciting Boise, Idaho, is not what I'd call a reward.

This. Number 2 would be El Paso. Yes, that number 2

It's not about the site--It's about the SWAG. There was an article this week that outlined the "gift bags" that the teams get for going to each bowl. There was one where all they got was a Fossil watch. That's the worst bowl game from their perspective.

They wouldn't give a shite about Boise or Birmingham if they got a new PlayStation out of it.

There's a sliding scale of swag.

I'd take less in handouts from a bowl in Hawaii if I got to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience over there.

I'd expect really nice stuff if I ended up freezing my nuts off in Toronto, Boise, Detroit, etc.

That's not to say Toronto has nothing to do, as it's a good city, but I don't want to fricking visit it in December.

If the players are permitted to cross the river to Windsor and legally drink and gamble @ 19, it's probably a great time for them.

Ive alwasys found it interesting that when talking about bowl games, its always about the experience the players get. Well if you want a life experience, then there is NOTHING better then being in New York City during the holidays...period. Not only should there be a bowl game in NYC...but i think there should be a major bowl game there (Empire Bowl or Big Apple Bowl). You're telling me that kids from the South or West wouldnt want to see:

Empire State Building
Times Square
Statue of Liberty
Central Park
Rockafeller Center
World Trade Center Memorial
Ellis Island
Macy's
Madison Square Garden
Yankee Stadium

and on and on!

Isn't there a max on this stuff though, something like $500 in gifts to the players, that the NCAA will allow? I wouldn't want to be known as the cheapskate bowl that only gives a fossil watch. All of them really should max out on the players gifts. And I saw where several of them are doing a "store" where players get to pick from several items as long as they don't go over this limit. You could get a PlayStation and not much else, or get a few smaller items to add up to it.

You can go snort a line with the mayor.

Average high in December/January is 58.

Trip to Mexico?

This doesn't look bad.

Idk if they would allow the teams to go visit Ciudad Juarez where the State Department has a travel warning. Some of them may not come back.

Both their SWAG bags suck, so I'd just go with El Paso. But I do vaguely remember it snowing for one of the Sun Bowl games. I'm not imagining it, am I?

Can't remember if it is the Sun Bowl (El Paso / Juarez), the Holiday Bowl (San Diego / Tijuana), or both, where the feds give a briefing to the players each year on why they need to stay on the US side of the line.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was both given that both of those cities are having drug wars right now.
