2014 OSU beat 2, 4, and 6 in the final polls and beat 13 59-0. Pretty similar resume and no where near the greatest team ever.

Their loss was also at home against a shitty VT team

1995 Nebraska average score: 53-14.

They averaged 366 rushing yards per game and a ridiculous 7 yards per carry as a team for the season.

Tommie Frazier didn't get sacked once all season.

They played four top 10 teams that year (3 of them away from home) and the combined score of those games was 196-73.

Miami had more NFL talent, but Nebraska was just overwhelming to opponents.

I agree that on paper, Nebraska did have a more impressive resume statistically. I'll take the 2001 Canes against them head to head, though.

2011 LSU team still has the best resume outside of losing the last game.

Yea, that minor detail

To be fair, we know now for certain that the '11 LSU team was more out-coached than out-played in the BCS game

We are talking about the best college football team of all time

They didnt even will it all. They werent the best team of the year. Therefore not the best team of all time.

Like the Warriors. Not the best team of all time they lost to the Cavs

I'd like to see proof of that. They were highly regarded, especially after beating down NU but I don't remember GOAT talk. That really picked up with the number of #1 draft picks they had and their success in the pros.

When you take about the GOAT do you mean:

1) The team that was better than all the other teams that season by the largest margin ever compared to other #1 teams in other seasons

2) The team that would beat all other teams ever head to head

Kind of shapes this conversation big time, as I suspect 2001 Miami could take 1995 Nebraska head to head.

Miami 2001 pretty much buried the option attack at Nebraska as well as in modern college football. Too much team speed.

Miami's opponents combined records were 81-60 (.574) while Nebraska was 72-54-2 (.571) with 1 I-A team. So pretty close SOS. But while Miami had all those future NFL draft picks I'm going to say '95 Nebraska was slightly better on the field.

They were also #86 in total offense. Too many issues at the QB position.

I have no problem with Miami being the GOAT, hell they had 3 teams that could have been the GOAT.

You had...

Miami
Miami
Miami
Miami
USC
USC
Alabama
USC
USC

In drafting teams all-time.

Miami 1986, 2002 and USC 2006 are the only teams that didn't win the title.

Meh, the QB position was too weak. Your 06 team was better, IMO.

It's often misremembered that way because of the debacle in the dome, but LSU's offense led by a combination of Lee/Jefferson ranked towards the top of just about every SEC offensive statistical category that year.

ETA: it's unfortunate they happened to have that team the same year that Saban had by far his best Bama team, and they BEAT them in Tuscaloosa.

LSU might have had a better resume but 1994 Penn St. was the best the didn't win the title.

Can we save these threads for the off-season? Usually when we have like 5 of these per a day.

the GOAT talk did start after the back to back annihilations of washington and syracuse.

on paper, miami 01 is the most talented team of all time.

the greatest team of all time is 95 nebraska.

imo, i think if there could be a hypothetical matchup between 01 miami and a few other all time greats miami would lose due to the severe coaching disadvantage they would be up against.
