I don't know if they were the best ever but they were the most fun to watch.

the players they had on defense stood out way more than say other good squads like from Nebraska '95.

but its kind of an interesting thought as to what would happen if NEB '95 played MIA '01.

'95 Nebraska manhandled Florida's defense that had a lot of speed and supposedly could matchup with Nebraska's option attack. I don't know about the power run game part but for the option plays a fast defense should have the advantage.

01 Miami had a better D than 95 Florida did talent wise but basically the same idea on D... loaded with team speed. And its not like 95 Florida fell off a cliff after Nebraska took them to the woodshed. They won the national championship the next year in a similar dominating fashion against Florida St.

So I mean Nebraska made its point against a team that could score a lot points on offense and play fast on defense.

I guess its just hard to see 95 Nebraska beating 01 Miami but its basicsally because of all the bad arse NFL players that came off Miami's squad. It had more to do with the Miami players success in the pros and not as much as what they did in college I think. And strength in numbers.. can't ignore the number of NFL players Miami produced not just that year but just in its history. Fair or not I think that goes a longer way in peoples takes than it should. Not saying its wrong or right either but just that its part of the thought process.

In 2008 USC was still popular and thought of as the dominant program in college football. A media darling that performed best on the biggest stage. There's no way a PAC 10 Champ USC with an 11-1 record is being bumped for Alabama who had a tepid offense and struggled in many of its games, if a committee is picking.

I'd like to see the SC fans on here chime in, but I think the '06, '07 and '08 teams were all better than anything else besides '04. As a major fan of a program who plays them every year, all three of those teams were fierce as hell and would have been damn solid bets to have won a playoff.

07 was forgettable.

i don't know what was more frustrating, 06 or 08. the 2008 team was better than 06 for sure, but 06 simply had to beat a bad ucla team to get into the national championship and play the ohio state team that got annihilated by florida (usc would go on and destroy michigan in the rose bowl).

2008 was frustrating for 2 reasons. first, along with 11 alabama and 01 miami, that team had the greatest defense i've ever seen. second, fans were robbed of an absolutely epic matchup- florida vs usc.

you can make the argument 08 was pete's second best team. i'm pretty confident that if you could swap the 08 usc team into the rose bowl to play VY and texas that night, usc is victorious.

The Canes this year aren't quite the disaster they were before Al got there. And they're a significant improvement over the team MR inherited. They will be good. They were sort of fun to watch from a distance when they were an actual disaster.

That's would be very impressive but I think you mean "17 first round draft picks."

I really, really wish that the 2016 Canes were the 2001 Canes.

I always put that '01 UF team up there as one the more talented teams that won nothing.

That was also an awesome last weekend of football, with LSU-AU and UT-UF squaring off in a final 4 to go to the SECCG because of 9/11.

Arguably Spurrier's most talented team (especially on defense). Miami still would've trucked us though.

My first thought before reading through the thread was that the 1986 Miami team was better than 2001. To this day, I'll take the top end talent of the '86 team over '01.

Vinny Testaverde - Heisman Trophy Winner. #1 overall pick
Steve Walsh - 4th in Heisman, #1 pick supplemental draft
Bennie Blades - Jim Thorpe Award Winner, #3 overall pick
Jerome Brown - Probable perennial Pro Bowler - #9 overall pick
Alonzo Highsmith - #3 overall pick
Michael Irvin - #11 overall pick, NFL Hall of Fame
Russell Maryland - Outland Trophy Winner, # 1 overall pick
Jeff Feagles - Most punts, punt yardage in NFL history
