His frame is too small yet he's beaten bigger guys than RDA and Connor?
well yes, Edgar was and is a great fighter and he beat a lot of fighters who were bigger than him when he was fighting at 155, but it's not his natural weight class.
when Edgar fought Henderson, how much do you think Henderson really weighed at fight time? 175 lbs maybe. Edgar was probably about 160. I would bet that in every fight at 155 Edgar came in as the smaller fighter. He always looked smaller. He still usually won but he was at a big disadvantage. I don't think that would work out so well for him these days. To many good legit 155lb class fighters these days.
(sorry Frankie, no disrespect intended)

Conor and UFC are not risking everything for Khabib to be a last minute fill in.

But if a Pettis fight came about, would the UFC really be losing anything on PPV buys over a DosAnjos/McGregor fight?
(I can see no way Khabid, to risky with big PPV loss)
But wouldn't Pettis/McGregor be just as big a fight for PPV buys?

Id bet it's Cowboy first, Diaz second. Easier fights and bigger names than Pettis even though he was champ. Rednecks and guidos remember the guy in that there cowboy hat.

Agree with you. It's not really about ppv buys with Conor. He will sell regardless, and the UFC doesn't want him to have a potential loss on such short notice.

both Cowboy and Diaz are going to be risks for McGregor, not like Petis though by any means. Though Cowboy might be walking around at 180lbs (being he just fought at 170) today with less than 2 weeks to the fight. Cutting that quick to make weight would probably take enough out of him that it's not going to be that tough a fight for McGregor if they schedule it.
such short notice they should do a catch weight but can't see them doing any favors for anyone who steps up to fight him.

They'll do McGregor vs Dennis Siver at 155
No way they risk the money they can make on a champion vs champion fight by having Connor fight someone legit at LW

fighters like BJ Penn and Gray Maynard are not at the top of the lightweight class any more. They have much better fighters now who would destroy those guys. Edgar could be a top ten lightweight maybe but he could never be lightweight champ again. He moved down to a class that is more natural for him, fits his frame, and one in that he has a better shot of being champ of.

God damn you're dense. Frankie was a great lightweight but he's a featherweight now and an elite one. Again he hasn't won at 155 in 4 years. I know you think he beat Benson, but he didn't. He lost twice and both times was at a size disadvantage. He hasn't trained for a 155 fight in 3 years. It could obviously be done and he would be game, but he would be an underdog and facing the same disadvantage in size and strength, and likely speed.
He's injured right now. He's next in line at 145 for a title and a major pay day. He deserves the title at 145 and that's the shot he'll get.

Who? Again RDA and Cerrone were in the division when those guys were at the top so why all of a sudden could they not be at the top now?
He moved down cause he lost 2 very close decisions and a title fight vs Aldo was being offered. If he got the decision vs Benson he would still be fighting at LW.
Oh and BJ Penn is the greatest LW ever by far, in his prime he would be the champ at any point

The lightweight division is nothing like it was 4 years ago. Cerrone and DosAnjos were just coming on and developing into the bigtime fighters they have become. Henderson was just coming around (and beat Edgar twice). Now you have Pettis and also Eddie Alverez is coming on strong. Nate Diaz has gotton a lot better. Tony Ferguson. Plenty top quality fighters. All bigger than Edgar.
Gray Maynard can't even make the top 30 in the lightweight rankings these days. Back then he was Edgars main competition for the title along with BJ Penn, a good but also undersized Lightweight. Look at who Edgar was fighting back then. It's a who's who list of nobodies.
Edgar moved down in weight class for a reason. He's fighting guys basically his own size now.

Of course Reebok would be the last to know the fight is cancelled

They can just change it to "Enter for a chance to win a trip to Vegas to fight Conor McGregor!".
