Gray Maynard is the same fighter today, the sport just passed him by?

The lightweight division is nothing like it was 4 years ago. Cerrone and DosAnjos were just coming on and developing into the bigtime fighters they have become. Henderson was just coming around (and beat Edgar twice). Now you have Pettis and also Eddie Alverez is coming on strong. Nate Diaz has gotton a lot better. Tony Ferguson. Plenty top quality fighters. All bigger than Edgar.

Gray Maynard can't even make the top 30 in the lightweight rankings these days. Back then he was Edgars main competition for the title along with BJ Penn, a good but also undersized Lightweight. Look at who Edgar was fighting back then. It's a who's who list of nobodies.

Edgar moved down in weight class for a reason. He's fighting guys basically his own size now.

Everyone you named except Alvarez was around when Frankie was champ. But they have all suddenly gotten better and Frankie suddenly got too small

Gray Maynard is washed up now because of the KOs he's suffered, A prime Maynard would be top 5 in the division easy

Frankie moved down because he lost two close decisions and was offered a title shot at FW it had nothing to do with size.

Is it even possible for a top level fighter to make weight, without sapping every bit of energy and strength out of them, with only a week and a half to cut the weight? Guess it depends on what their normal training weight is, but still doesn't seem likely any of the top lightweights could do it and still be the fighter they normally would be.

on a side note, Deigo Sanchez and Jim Miller are scheduled on the prelimary card to fight a lightweight fight that night. both are game fighters, have name recognition, and have fought in big fights in the recent past. Neither are likely to mess up the McGregor/DosAnjos big payday fight down the line.

Frankie didn't get to small, he was always small for the weight class. But anyway I tired of you putting it on me to explain, why don't you explain it. All of those other guys (Cerrone and DosAnjos) stayed fighting at Lightweight (they probably couldn't make 145 if they tried) but Edgar went down in weight and stayed and continues to fight at featherweight. Why would he do that if he has no problems with the size and level of competition at the lightweight weight class?

He went down because he was offered a title shot and he's stayed down because he's the rightful #1 contender

so in your opinion you think he would move back up to lightweight and could be a contender (top 5 fighter) with a shot of actually being Lightweight champ if he moved back up?

You also don't see his size being a disadvantage in the Lightweight class or think he is a small lightweight?

The hangup is probably pay though. Nate only got $40k ($20k to show, $20k win bonus) his last fight. Mendes got $500k to fight Conor on short notice last summer so he better get something similar.

Sucks for Cono; he goes from a title fight for a second belt to a fight that he has nothing to win/everything to lose (Diaz, Cowboy).

Can't wait to hear his shite talking the next couple week, though.

I'd like to know how RDA broke his foot AFTER his training camp already ended last week.
