I catch a lot of games and it has been brilliant. Even the 10-9 Toronto vs St Louis game on opening day was fun. Like the 2 to 0 games, it just moved along. The stolen bases are a nice bonus. Maybe speed will matter again in MLB.

And have you noticed how the infielders are having to extend and show athleticism again at their position?

Baseball seldom gets anything right in the big picture. But this blind pig just found a huge acorn.

Didn't think I'd like the time clock rules, especially this soon, but I like it. Think it has been great. It increases the stolen base aspect of the game, the pace and action has been there, and no super late games, especially during the week when watching/going to a game. I'm impressed.

It’ll be interesting for pitchers when they get in jams. They can’t slow the game down anymore and batters will take advantage of that. I’d be interested to see scoring averages in a month to see how many more runs are being scored.

I’m really enjoying the impact the larger bases have had also. Stolen bases are WAY up.

Curious as to how the faster games are going to affect the in-stadium experience. I assume that concession prices will go up at some point, when you are cutting 30-60 minutes off the time people have to buy them.

Shift isn't banned. Very slight limits to it. You still see teams shift. Just have to have feet on the dirt in the IF and can't play directly behind 2b but you can still play 2 inches from behind 2b. OF can play anywhere they wantout there

I was against banning the shift, but I was wrong. All the rule changes have improved the regular season games. I’m still a little skeptical on the pick off limit but I’d be lying if I said that the total package of rules changes hadn’t made things much more watchable

We'll just see more bloody ads during the games to make up for the shorter games. Jersey and helmet ads make me want to stab my eyes with a fork. I expect to see more fake ads plastered on the field or somewhere else during the telecast.

I'm a huge fan of the new rules as well. Pace of play during Reds games has been phenomenal. Really love the increased base stealing. And guys getting in the box and hitting. Seeing a guy step out to adjust his batting gloves after every pitch rustled the frick out of my jimmies.

The entire analytics boon has been a massive advantage for pitchers. Banning the shift finally gives something back to the hitters.

One other thing that doesn't get pointed out as much as it probably should is that the shift disproportionately hurt left-handed hitters. Because of the way the diamond is set up and where first base is, you can't as aggressively pull-side shift right-handers because you still need someone to cover first-base. It was a quirk of how baseball is played that no one really anticipated when shifts became more popular.

I watch more minor league games than MLB. It’s amazing how quickly you get used to it.

I went to the Mariners game on Saturday and they opened the stadium up earlier. It probably had more to do with Julio Rodriguez bobble head night and Monster Jam happening at the same time next door at Lumen Field than the rule change, but I guarantee they did great on concessions even though the game was barely over two hours long.

The Mariners lost, but best live MLB game I seen in awhile and it was due to the new rules. I’ll be back tomorrow to see Shohei pitch. The attendance jump due to the new rules will make up the difference in concessions revenue.

I texted my friend watching last Saturday's matchup between the Cubs and Brewers. At that point I said "This game started 1 hour and 40 minutes ago and it's in the bottom of the 7th, 2 outs".

I've been impressed so far. It feels like a happy balance of a good pace of game without feeling like it's rushed. I like how stolen bases are up as well.

I’m torn.

The big bases look funny, but I like more steals.

Banning the shift was necessary. It’s not easy to go oppo or lay down a bunt. Times have changed, and every reliever comes in throwing gas. You aren’t facing a starter in the 8th who is throwing his 110th pitch.

Lastly, the clock…I don’t mind it for TV. I do NOT like it for games I attend, especially major leagues games on my summer vacations. I’ll be at Baltimore, Philly, and Boston this summer. I want to soak in the atmosphere, grab a beer, walk around the park and take pics, and still be able to pay attention to the game. I don’t want to spend money to park, fork over a large sum for a ticket to Fenway, then be treated to a 2 hour game.

With that said, I’m sure I’m in the minority. Baseball was different because you didn’t have an obsession with a clock. I’ve already seen a game where fans were chanting/counting down the pitch clock…so lame.

1000%

Some old heads will still argue with you but deep in their baseball hearts this is so much better.
Especially considering all of our attention spans are the size of a gnat these days.

I can see this. It is absolutely much better for television. As a Cub fan the 7:00 games that lasted until 10:30 or later, I'd never make the end. But now I probably will.

I had the same feeling as you 08 regarding the live product. When I go to a game at Wrigley I never looked at my watch, it was the experience. But I went to the opening series this past weekend and I was fine with it. I never looked at my watch then either, was still able to soak it in and when it was over had a bit more time to enjoy the Wrigleyville experiences as well.

It’s made it better. All the purists who say these changes are bad are full of shite. They obviously never watched any old games where the pitcher would get the ball back from the catcher and throw the next pitch quickly.

I also love the return of the stolen base.

The only completely garbage change is the extra inning baserunner that has carried over from 2020 for some reason.

It’ll piss off some of the baseball purists, but I love it.

I dont watch MLB and didn't know about the larger bases. What is the projection for how much it will raise batting average and runs scored?
